Since not having the workshop anymore I'm in dire need of some organisation in my life, namely with my tools and garage storage. So I figured it's about time I turn my attention to these:
Two Talco tool chests.
The black one was found at the back of the garage of my house when I bought it last year. Normally I would consider this a good find, but considering the previous home owner had left it behind 4 (yes, 4!) abandoned fridges (two of which still contained food and none had been plugged in for in excess of 8 months), 6 worn car tyres and a plethora of other curse word, it was a very small positive. Factor in that the lid hinge had also seized shut (meaning you couldn't open any of the drawers either) then I was to assumed that this was also scrap just left for me to dispose of. Fast forward a year and a can of WD-40, and this is now in the daylight and just about openable.
The hinge is still pretty FUBAR'd but it'll open enough to get the drawers open (sadly no interesting finds were inside, just spiders and worthless curse word).
The red one was a recent acquisition. I was clearing out my father in law's old (and partially collapsed garage) ahead of his house sale which should be happening next month. Buried beneath mounds of curse word was the red tool box. There was no key and plenty of rust, but it looked sturdy enough and too good to waste so I kindly took it off his hands. 1 minute with a screwdriver and I was in; only to discover the astonishing fact that it had never even been used!
Bit of a result! But by no means new. This had spent it's entire life in a damp garage and it shows... most if the external paint is done for and there is corrosion all over it. But from an initial inspection, most of the corrosion is just surface stuff with only very shallow pitting so I'm hoping it should clean up well...
