Ah! Yes. Old / memory problems... This is as close as I ever got to owning Flat Attack - my Bug Jam 3 T-shirt. (Sorry it wrinkly - but if you think that’s bad, you should see my face ) Can’t seem to find a picture of the OP Baja. It was white and blue and soooooo different to anything I had noticed before!

These are all excellent, I'm sure I'll be bugging (no pun) Stu and the B289 crew with questions.
What has there been in the scene from the last ten years or so that have been winning/firing up the imagination?

What has there been in the scene from the last ten years or so that have been winning/firing up the imagination? In the last 10 years? Not so much, I would say. The quality has undoubtedly improved but everyone seems to play it safe with the creativity side, possibly connected to the value of the cars these days. I think there is also something about the fact that you only very rarely saw the earlier cars at shows or the odd magazine feature that seemed to add to the mystique. Having said that, there are still some epic cars being put together (I couldn't tell you the owners' names tough!)

This is a great thread, but I'm lost. I know nothing about the Aircooled VW scene, so is there any chance you could put a few words with your pictures to say why you think each car is iconic. Please. Most of these cars are from the late 80s/early 90s and were part of the 'New Wave' VW scene of that time. The emphasis was on style and creativity, rather than money (and quality of execution in some cases). It was quite a small scene and most of the participants were pretty young. There was a big social/show scene that went along with it so a lot of people have fond memories of the time.

I'd choose Brett Hawksbee's 1962 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia T-top.

I'd choose Brett Hawksbee's 1962 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia T-top. One of my favourite KG's ever . It was refreshed last year and is still absolutely stunning 😎

I'd choose Brett Hawksbee's 1962 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia T-top. I think I remember going to see his 356 speedster drag car race at Long Marston raceway back in the 80s. Mark Bailey - that’s whose black and peppermint Carson topped bug I was trying to remember. very cool car but quite a bit later than the others. I remember reading about Europes most beautiful beetle awarded at the first Bug Jam. The owner Chris Jorey worked at IDA (Innovative Automotive Design) I think he said. When I read about the resto, they talked about the buckets of filler the car had in it. Very common at the time. Like Discostu says, was fairly common at the time - except for my car, obviously cough cough; more like ten buckets in mine The Joker was also well known and I understand recently restored. Brian Burrows had a great Wizard roadster convertible with milled everything on it too.

I have one, Don't think I've seen it in the thread, also I can't find pics and I can't remember the builders name. What I can remember is it was a peach kind of colour beetle with polished Carlton GSI 3000 rims, and I recall it being called Homer, maybe.

I remember a shortened splitty bus or van in light blue, probably named Skizzo.
