Hi;
I am salvaging some parts from a couple of Metros. I have removed two HIF carbs both of which have corrosion on the outside and need a lot of cleaning. What are the best methods for cleaning up and restoring these carbs to sell?
Carb Cleaner Spray? White Vinegar?
I don't have access to a soda blaster but do have access to an ultrasonic cleaner.
Thanks

I've heard good reports about ultrasonic cleaning for parts like carbs, but I haven't tried it myself. Sadly when Aldi had them, they didn't look big enough to get anything worthwhile in.

My brother tried an ultrasonic cleaner on carbs. It will loosen dirt, but the carb will not look nice clean and restored after. I think the carbs you see that look like new have been aqua blasted.

Agreed. I have an ultrasonic tank. It's large enough to get a full set of 4 bike carbs in without striping them down. I used proper carb cleaning solution which leaves the aluminium dull and dark grey in colour

If it can be fixed with a hammer, then it must be an electrical fault

Ultrasonic cleaning will remove the crud inside and out. For the outside some solvol/autosol or similar ,very fine wire wool followed by simple buffing cloth and loads of elbow grease.
