The horn has stopped working on the Mrs E36. I checked the relay and fuse, all ok. The local garage had a quick look one day and said there was no power coming into the relay.
Can I run a wire from the horn with a switch ? Is the relay actually needed? I just need a quick solution to get the horn working for it mot next week.

The relay is to reduce load on the switch, it’s far more common with steering wheel mounted ones.
You could wire a horn up to a new switch, or get a new power source to the relay, unless it’s not the constant that’s missing?

I ended up trying to check all the wiring, but I have limited knowledge with this. I found 2 sides of the relay connection to be live with 12v. I thought possibly the Earth was at fault so I ran a wire from what I I thought was the Earth on the relay to the Earth on the battery, when I did this the horn sounded. So for now I have ran a wire from 85 on the relay to the Earth on the battery. With this wire split and joined with a switch I can now turn the horn on and off. Not ideal at all but at least I can sound the horn from inside the car and it’s enough to pass the mot.
