Hey all, I've started craving a Nissan Sunny / Pulsar N13 (the booted version)
Test drove one this week with 54k on the clock, 1.6 Automatic.... I kinda loved it although! Does anyone know much about this particular model? I really fancied a daily driver that could eat up the miles, be a Retro and Auto but, cant decide if this Car would be a mistake. This one was kitted out with power windows, locks and PAS!! I know nothing about the engine, a lot of people seem to like the 1.3 or 1.4s but is this the same engine ?
I know its an old car and you cant expect it to be anything else but a few things bugged me and I'm asking for future viewings (if i can find one):...
- it was quite slow for a 1.6 (compared to my 1.1 Escort mk3!! ) but, i was test driving it on roughish roads with one tyre pretty under inflated. Are these really that slow?
- The seller had the engine running for about and hour previous as he said something about its been sitting for 4 weeks/ something about it not starting always that well. I went away and came back an hour later to see it from a coldish start and it did kick up straight away. I was concerned about a head gasket problem or something... ive always heard this as being a big No No when going to see a car.
- The Auto box seemed smooth enough but i could hear a faint whine/electric motor type noise that osolated with the pitch of the engine. it also jumped a little going into reverse... would this be a major or a problem at all? some people said this is just how small/old auto cars are?
- The seller said the PAS didnt kick in till a while down the road... i couldnt tell, either way it seemed light and the test drive wasnt long enough.
- Lastly, i struggled to get the oil cap off to check under that! it just seemed to spin and was made of softish rubber. Maybe i just didnt have the "nack" but i was a bit concerned about that!!
It seemed a cool car even still and i'm thinking if i didnt buy this one as i'm a little unsure about it, i'd like one in the future for sure for a sensible daily. Never bothered with Japanese cars although my thinking is i could hammer one in a way that i couldnt my old Escort and still have some 80s fun!
