Given Volvo territory is all new to me, this is a new adventure! Now whilst I’ve picked up that a turbo Volvo of a certain age is normally referred to as a Turbobrick I don’t think “brick” is a word you could use for a C70, so a slab? As there’s a lot of love on here for Sweden’s favourite 5-pot blown motor, this seemed the best place for a thread. Just bought it on fleabay and hopefully collecting this weekend so the fun should start soon. It needs to be ready for a trip to the South of France in about 6 weeks so it’s going to get a quick once over in order to get me the 2000 miles without issue. Apparently it’s had a remap to 280bhp so could be fun

A month in and..? Cambelt interval is 90k/10 years for this engine apparently and it last had one about 12 years and 95k ago, so that (and a new water pump) was the first job before I dare take it anywhere. Exhaust decided to spring a major leak, so spent far too long fitting an aftermarket part which just didn't want to fit until I grafted another inch into its length to both meet the downpipe and clear the bodywork where the silencer sits. Should have gone with the stainless performance one instead - probably would have been cheaper in the long run. Had a run down to the South Coast for a wedding and managed low 30's to the gallon, which is pretty acceptable. Managed 35mpg on the way back from deepest Essex, but then I got addicted to the performance. Plugged in the OBD dongle, fired up the phone app and the alleged "T5R map" it had might not be all it seems as the (limited) info supplied with the car shows only one remap available for this engine from that company and supposedly 310bhp. I'm not sure what 33psi of boost equates to, but that's what it was registering (and still holds most of that right to the top of the revs) even though there seems to be air escaping on boost. Do these have a recirc/dump valve like a Saab which could be split, I wonder? Not found one yet, but been looking at other issues.. It's got a nasty habit of stalling - especially when you've got some load (like steering lock) on it which could be anything - either a dodgy ETM (which apparently is usually the TPS sensor - available new now for about £80 as opposed to £1k for the whole unit) but more worrying is the fact the AFM sensor was held in with 2 tek-screws, and signs the K&N filter may have been over-oiled (now replaced with an OE-spec paper filter). Someone has been here before. And not in a good way. I'd have a closer look but after a quick coolant check before leaving the south coast (still burping the last of the air out post-pump change), only one bonnet latch actually "latched" and now I can't open or fully close the bonnet (so I get the "door open" light on at anything over 30mph). Lever feels like it's still connected so hoping it isn't a snapped cable

Any recommendations for which FB group to join? I think the biggest is "Volvo owners UK" or something like that. Thousands of members. When I was debating a V70 they were helpful and informative. There's less of the fighting like other pages.
