I recently got a Denon 670R that works really well par one problem. The problem is that the long rectangular panel on the front (which displays the tape and radio info) doesn't illuminate due to a bulb being gone. I had a look to see if I could simply change it. The front part pops off and I noticed there are small philips heads screws to take the facia apart to do this. However I don't want to break it or blow things up, so to speak. Is this is a simple fix once I get it apart or are we talking about opening up a 'jar of worms' as my old man would say? Pic for reference:

Nice old h/u and I'm a huge Denon fan, user, collector and hoarder I would imagine its an lcd an not an led display, don't think its as easy as de-soldering an led and re-soldering, i could be wrong but don't think so. Well worth opening the face up as due to its age it could be a dry joint or dislodged wire. If you cant get it to light up then you could send it out to Fullers as they are very good, very well priced and fantastic service. If you require any other Denon goods to go with her i may have some spare bits laying around. All the best.

I may consider that if I have no joy. Funny enough a guy in work has a lot of Denon goodies. I also have the DCH-470 CD changer and DCR-1000R CD player that he has sold me. I am hoping to get an amp to add to this as well. Cracking quality.

Denon wise i would be using the DCT1000 !!! Compared to the other Denon its like comparing a Kia and a Porsche.
The DCT1000 is legendary and was the go to h/u for SQ guys for a long time, i still have a few in my collection.
Did you get the balanced line out cables with it ? Be mindful she is a dead head ! ie you can only get sound using an amp as it has no speaker wires. I have a few spare Deno 6 ch amps that would go very well with it. All the best.

If I remember correctly the early Denons used bulbes, but the later DCT670, 950, 970 and 1000 all had LEDs to light up the LCD. I used to sell them back in the days The balanced outputs on the DCT1000 is compatible with Phoenix Golds balanced inputs on their high end stuff lika ZPA-amps etc. PS; just remembered, the DCT950 had bulbs as you changed the LCD colour by changing small rubber boots over the bulbs in different colours.

Thanks for the useful information sir Beans will be fine on the phono's as they are not balanced allowing to utilise any amp, the balanced lines are on the opposing side and the cables are ultra rare - hence me asking as i was going to offer to purchase them if he wasnt using a balanced amp There are a few ways around the balanced line outs and numerous amps will accept them.
