It was a handy price, I even put the ebay ad on here, I then started to get itchy fingers and thought what the heck and pressed buy it now A trip to a remote farm in Scotland followed, lovely old boy selling, he has an Alfa 159 and old GTV6 and a cool retro campervan, not to mention Clark the cow sized dog. Chats were had, money crossed the table and forms were filled then I jumped in and headed for home, I settled in and after 10 minutes started to punch the V6 a bit, first thoughts were that the brakes left a lot to be desired and the exhaust is blowing. An equally remote petrol station gave me the required fuel and a scotch pie, with the pie I got the assurance that it was not full of runny gravy, well down the road a ways that I found was a load of bullocks. Easy journey home, no issues apart from an airbag light which I am pretty sure my Alfa-diag will reset one the connectors are remade. She now sits on my little ramps in the lockup, first thing was to clean up the intakes, sat watching the world cup to do that. Found the exhaust holes, it’s weldable once the fasteners are cut out, what was once nuts and bolts are now just rusty misshapen lumps, looks like it has been grounded which has cause the exhaust holes, despite the rare aluminium undertray. Engine is covered in oil leaks, pretty sure it’s the rocker gaskets, in 245 miles she lost no oil. Generally unloved underneath, lots of surface rust, front discs are shocking, they were an mot advisorie, should have been a fail. Same as the underside the general condition of the bodywork is unloved, surprisingly the interior is fabulous. All in all I am perfectly happy with it and I am sure sooner or later I will decide what to do with it.

I had one of these and enjoyed for the time I had it. I upgraded the pads to DS2500s with a good quality OEM brake disc, the stopping power was awesome. Mine was the lux with the soft suspension. Used to nose dive a lot, scraping the undertray

Used to nose dive a lot, scraping the undertray On my GTV I had ds25’s braided hoses and brembo discs, they were fantastic, this one is scraped on the undertray, front bumper and exhaust, I have just had to patch the exhaust as it was holed in 2 spots where it has really hit the ground or some sort of solid hump.

Went to the lockup this morning with every intention of refitting the welded exhaust, swung by toolstation and picked up new nuts/bolts/washers. positioned everything then thought I’ll just clean up this spot of surface rust from the floorpan 🤣 Hmmm, major league bodging, under the thick black paint is a rusty riveted on piece of steel and buckets of bathroom seal. Decided to remove the skirt and check all along, skirt came off in 3pieces and the amount of earth behind it was amazing, back end of the outer sill has holed. You know what, since I bought a mig machine I am not overly worried. It has a long mot I’m just going to quick patch it, run until the mot runs out then make a decision. To make matters worse my crowbar fell into the cat repeatedly, what’s a man going to do.........

I'm so glad my 156 has never needed any patching. It did however scrape through the exact same spot on the exhaust and need fixing there, despite never being rallied or lowered. Just hangs low and catches every speedbump.

Mine had gone round the small vents in the floor and parts of the sill. I wasn't impressed considering they are meant to be galvanised or rust proofed? I think 156s will be vanishing rapidly.

o/s skirt removed today, not as much earth, alas 2 more holes, I have had my expert welder look at it, he says it’s that simple I could do it 😄 Exhaust is back on and full of condensation, I have removed some of it.

I’m bleeding from many hand cuts as I battle to remove the carpet, Alfa in their infinite wisdom decided to make it in one piece so the centre console and down the gear stick, handbrake area all have to come out. I don’t have the proper trim removers and the plastics are brittle so I have been having great success with a wire crimp tool 😁

I think I just cut mine with a knife I had the Stanley knife in my hand, it’s now a challenge though to remove it in one piece 😄

If it's like the 916 sharp cut from the bulkhead down to the gearlever jobs a goodun And when I saw just how much airbag wiring I had to remove I cut from the bulkhead to the gear lever😁 All the carpet is out, blocks of underlay are out, most of the stuck on black stuff is out, n/s is much worse than o/s, strangely so as there was more water on the floorpan o/s At least I can see all the holes now, found a few after attacking the floor with a sharpened screwdriver
