Hi all, Been a while since i've posted on here - thought this was the right place for it though! Can anyone help me ID this? Found in a Scottish scrapyard, i know the car is well beyond it but i'm interested in the flat head engine and gearbox for a project. I've found some similar cars by searching 40's British cars (Austin 8, 10, Vauxhall 10 etc) but none of them seem to have the flat head engine, windows are slightly different etc. Any help appreciated.

No, not a Pop, rear window is wrong. First thought was Opel but the word "gasoline" on the fuel gauge make me wonder.

My first thought was ford pop, but the rear side window is wrong. Still ford going by the wheels, but which one? Id love to see it stitched back together and rodded.

How many times do we say:"All modern cars look the same.".
But in any given decade, the cars back then were also very similar looking and people probably said the same!

id be tempted to say the pop is better looking, but i like the headlight position on the opel, almost looks like a custom touch.

My thought was Opel Kadett too Awesome work! That's definitely it, i'm not too clued up cars of this age but can pair up the grille, door windows etc. Good job, now to see if its worth dropping the engine/box out of it! Agree, the designs are very similar..

I think it's the 237 model, although it was difficult to discern from the K38. The Russians captured the Opel factories and the Moskvitch 400/420 was the result, again a very similar car.
Puzzled by the rhd and atypical instruments, a conversion?

It's MOT exempt - new tyres and some fresh fuel and you are set

Hi, As the Opel/Moskovich was in Russian hands after the war, I can imagine parts for the engine would have been difficult to obtain so someone may have dropped the Ford lump in to keep the car usable.

Anybody got photos of the engine? Looks like it might still be the original engine if this drawing is anything to go by 😊

Could be that at the time Opel purchased the engines for their cars from Ford.
