Sadly not much progress. Did intend to get the rear leafs refurbed but then the gearbox on the Micra started to go. Crunching all over the shop. Drained it and it was like panning for gold! 1st was barely there, popped out of 5th all the time. Needed a service, some welding, brakes, MOT in Sept....so needed a replacement (especially with a mystery 800 mile round birthday trip planned at the end of the week! Planned by the other half entirely, involves 7 hours of walking and a lot of camp stuff...so bloody excited)
After looking at a
lot of absolute basket cases (
"Yeah mate it's mint, runs great" - full of filler and the clutch slips like a greased seal) - turns out £2 - 400 is not an awful lot to buy a car on.
After a week solid of stressful searching and viewing piles of toss I came across a freshly PX'd 106 from a private dealer, loads of history, all bills of work since 2012, always serviced on time and never wanted for anything - cambelt done in 2015 with proof, service in Dec '17 and MOT until August.
Drives like an absolute peach, nippy, no bad noises and very comfy (makes me realise how messed up the micra was). Blower fan doesn't work so I got it for £300. Bargain.
Gave it a wash aaaand:
Scrubs up well. Think this one is a keeper (touch-wood!), might even take it to a garage for services to keep the history going. Really such a tidy car, few scratches and dents but it's genuinely lovely. Blue tartan interior too which is neat-o.
Micra went off to the banger racers, to be raced on the 9th:
Got £110 for it and only paid £120, so 4/5 months motoring for a tenner...decent.
25 this month, insurance on my daily goes down to £37 a month from £75 a month, phone contract is now SIM only saving me £28 a month. £66 a month saving to spend on other (Hillman?) things.
For now, I'm fairly skint but looking forward to an awesome campy/walky trip. Glad I have a good daily, and hopeful for the future.
Sorry for the non-hillman related update and a bit of a ramble...but there you have it!
