Best way to strip paint from alloy wheels at home

Unless your infinite time is worth nothing, 40-50 quid to get a set of wheels blasted is an utter bargain.

....And once you have finished polluting the atmosphere ,stand back and admire your handwork....
You have now totally fu€ked the heat treatment of your  alloy wheel. 🙄

Just send them for blasting. The world will be a better place for it. ....

Like it's already been said blasting is a cheap & easy process - to use a flame process is stupidity - have you never heard of heat distortion of metals ?

Also.......why are we even discussing this.....just send them away to be stripped.....it's only a tenner a wheel....or better still. Send them off to be chemically stripped, blasted and coated.....it's only £20 a wheel

The reality is around £10-15 (normal) to £20/25 (slightly pricey) for either shot- (or other media-) blasting wheels (best for heavily overpainted or steel wheels) or for chemically dipping (best choice IMO for alloys especially soft older wheels) and that should leave your wheels bare and ready to do something with. Some might primer them for you inclusive in that, but with alloys, you'd want them etch primed up from bare metal, not just ordinary paint primer.

After that you can paint or polish them yourself if you fancy it.

The full process (strip and repaint, usually called a refurb) leaving them back to you can be anything from £120 (cheap) to £200-250 (normal) to £500+ (dear).

Albeit that labour rates and overheads are a bit lower in NI than the majority of England, a few sample prices:

I had a set of 17" wheels, one with a bad dent in the rear, refurbished - that is, stripped, all four straightened, and refinished in a lovely sparkling light metallic grey for £240.
Having a set of wide 17" wheels in rough shape stripped, repainted then diamond cut and lacquered cost £320 - I think it's usually £360 for that though.
Can't remember any offhand. Waiting on a set of BBS centres to come back hopefully powedercoated light grey.
And chemical stripping is £10 per wheel if I fancy doing them myself, or if I want to polish them. They don't do polishing any more as it's too labour intensive.

I just use one guy that's fairly local, but there are others. He's not particularly cheap, but there are some more expensive ones a bit further away - as well as some cheaper ones, who just don't deliver the service or quality.
