I was thinking of building a Hot-Rod.
I'd like to try for a single donor.
What 1990-1998 V8 european (as in sold here) cars might be suitable?

In a Nutshell, Metrocab! Although it's not a V8 so you'll have to add that bit yourself! eBay item number: 182130333724

I’m guessing you need a chassis? Land Rover V8.... but that’s be pricey! No. I can make one if I have to. Well, tack one. The welding would be done by a pro.

Mate built a 27 T years back,
He used a front beam from a Sherpa Cortina axle Pinto and type 9 (but should have been a v8)
Chassis was a repro 32 with front horns, it wasn’t particularly complicated.... but you’d get into the IVA mess if not a body swap? Or is that not a problem?
If not chassis is easy to make, you’d just need some measurements and steel!

So if I used an old shell I could build anything. Some pretty radical rat rods over here now.

If you're not after an engine donor but are instead looking to build a hot rod 90s car, grab a Lexus LS400 before everyone pulls the engines out to put in other hot rods.

I've done something wrong with the quote thing. This is what he said, See that's the thing.
No test of any description for cars over 40.Is this considered to be a good thing? I can see how this would give sensible people a little bit of freedom but there must be some absolute sh1tters still being driven by those who don't know or don't care how dangerously shagged their vehicles are. Nothing else to add other than to wish you luck with your project and please do remember to post a build thread.

This would only be true if you used an original unaltered pre 1978 CHASSIS (not a body on a new chassis) original type engine and running gear that will fit without modification. So a VHRA style period hot rod could be built within the 8 points criteria, without the need for IVA with a genuine pre war base car, flathead, early Ford axles etc. Anything as described in your question, especially if you build your own chassis is definitely IVA territory. There are loads of threads on this here and the hot rod forums. This is a good one to start with

You can't just use an LS400 for the engine and throw away the rest. All that potential, GONE. Make a hot rod LS400! Comfort and speedyzooms all in one.

Actually a Scimitar would be a great basis... And that looks good. Hmmm.

There are a few rods based on lotus 7 platforms that are worth a look . Same amount of work to graft a glass body onto as scimitar or other ladder type chassis but much more of a sports car to drive
