You know, the ones you can't buy from your local Asda or Tesco, you have to order them online when no one is looking. Then when they turn up at home, or place of work in my case, you hide them from your partner because you are ashamed of them and how much you paid for some glossy paper. Then you get a quiet moment, you get yourself all comfortable and flick through those pages for the first time, taking in all those beautiful images from angles you have never seen before, its a special moment. I had that feeling today when my copy of We Are Rusty turned up. I wont bore you with how astonishing that magazine is but it reminded me of the last time I had this feeling thumbing through some pages. It must have been nearly 10 years ago when reading an issue of Custom Car there was an advert for a 'New' type of car mag, it was called Hot Rod Showcase and if I remember correctly they only printed 3000 copies of issue one. If they sold more than 1500 copies then they would print issue two. So I parted with my hard earned cash for issue one but never saw an issue two. Does anyone remember it and do any of you have any other 'specialist magazines' you wish to share with us?

Funnily enough I've stopped buying most monthlies, because I just don't think they're worth my money. I realise that I'm generalising, but they seem to have too many adverts, and the articles are badly written and I always think the photography could be better. Having said that I do buy 'Built' magazine every month, it's about motorsickles, but the writing is good, the photography is good, and the percentage of ads is low! But apart from that I do buy a few specialist magazines, and some of them are even about cars! Here's a small selection of mine, and oddly I was looking at Hotrod Showcase just the other night, I forked out my hard earned too, and was disappointed that not enough other people did. I tend to buy a couple from Graham at American Auto Mags whenever I see him, he's got a pretty good selection. I've got every issue of the Rodders Journal, which I think is just superb! Fuel comes from Australia, and every once in a while I'll buy that, it's worth a look too, and occasionally you can find it in WH Smith. DicE is motorsickles again the style of writing is intersting, but theres a fair amount of swearing in it, and sometimes naked ladies (been pulled aside by the Pistonpoppets teachers a few times when they've smuggled them into school!) I guess the best way to describe DicE is by saying it's quite atmospheric. Hop Ups good too, it's also a bit atmospheric, but theres not the swearing in it, and the writing style, much like DicE is interesting. As for Rolls & Pleats, and R&C little pages, they're quite nice in a nostalgic kinda way. I've got quite a few more other titles too, but I guess these are my favourites!

Due to my eclectic and ever-changing taste in cars, I have bought thousands of magazines since my school days, my last one I purchased regularly was Retro Cars but I let my subscription lapse this year.
I don't think there's anything specialist, but I have hundreds upstairs, over the years I have thrown away approx five times my own height in car mags!
I feel guilty that I spent all that money (think of the car I could have had at today's rate of £5 per mag!) but I also feel guilty that by not buying them I'm helping the industry die.
...I also have a sneaky Demon Tweeks catalogue collection, much thumbed and enjoyed!

Came home to find my copy just dumped on my doorstep, it fits through my letterbox I checked so I dunno what my postman thinks he's up to! Anyway it's now keeping me from doing the gardening, what a great read! Nicely put together, good paper stock, well written, and great photography. If whoever is behind this magazine is reading this, well done that man! erm, or woman!!
