Has anyone any experience with fixing this area? Whoever welded here before did a terrible job! I’m lead to believe you can no longer get the front panel but you can get the cup and its seperate to the floor pan...   If so any pics of said repair? I’m an experienced welder but no so with building up a repair with multiple sections so pics of this repair would be helpful! |

Thats the cup i mentioned you can get, but obviously i need quite a bit more than that. I did some googling and you used to be able to get the panel the stump is welded to but its NLA and the floor pan is above it so lools like I’ll need to cut all the rot out and rebuild the area

I had to do mine. It's under the section that raises at 45 ish degrees behind the pedals/passengers feet. So it is likely you'll be cutting into a second skin.

Not done one of these before but repaired no end of vehicles over a significant period with this type of rust ingress - normally by fabricating my own repair sections - first thing I would do is remove the seats / carpet / interior trim and then warm the underseal on the underside and scrape the area clean - at that point you can see / view what is good / bad and form a plan for the repair - times many I have seen guys tear into something like this with the angle grinder out & running before the handbrake has even been applied only for them to then loose their way with a repair that barely does either them or the car any justice - credit to you for doing the research first !

Now i know that this area may well be overlapped by the floor pan, I’ll definitely pull the carpet up and see if theres any brown there, but its likely I’ll go through with the grinder, in which case I’ll need to make a repair section for the above first, then attack underneath. My next plan was to remove the underseal and get the wire wheel on it to assess just how bad it is, but i very much suspect that jacking point area is a plate on top (or underneath!) existing rot. Grinds my gears when people think that’s an acceptable repair. It’ll get an mot sure but it’ll only come back with a vengeance! |

Might be a idea to wire wheel the other side if its good to get a good look at what the cup is welded to which is then welded to the floorpan .
In my experience of building rally cars from new and having to remove such stuff I'm better its just another single skin doubler plate to spread the load and it will be made of thicker material than the floor pan , maybe 1.6mm material ?
Obviously it probably has some shape or curves and pressings in which you would need to try to replicate for the strength .
Might even be worth seeing if you could get one cut from a decent shell ? Might be a option or something to bare in mind ?

I’ve cleaned up above and below and its as expected, a plate on top of rot! I’ll be using 2mm sheet and where the cup is welded its is double skinned so I’ll have 4mm there which should be man enough
