Hi all
Just thought I would share details of our latest project car. check the link for the full story and updates will be coming very soon with the new engine.. petrolobsession.com/2018/03/02/every-cloud-has-a-silvia-lining/
A white 1987 Nissan Silvia S12. This particular UK spec Silvia originally came with a 1.8 litre, Turbo charged, single overhead cam engine.
The engine came with free rust and cobwebs from being sat in a garage since 2005, so we will source a different engine. Probably something more modern and of course more powerful for retro turbo skids.
Hoping to get this ready for the Retro Rides Gathering this year, well I'm hoping to have it ready for Japfest in May first but we will see how that goes.

It is surprisingly solid underneath. I had to weld a small patch at the front of the rear wheel arch, top corners next to the windscreen had to be fillered and the passenger side rear window cill had to have 2 patches welded in. Not the best job ever but at least it's now solid. Front passenger wing is a bit crusty (and off a Mk1) unfortunately they are rare as hell so one more bit of fabricating to do there... (Excuse picture quality my camera is playing up)

Remember my mate having one years ago. Last I saw they had removed the boxes from the exhaust and fitted a cherry bomb exhaust to it, could proper hear the turbo on it after that

After a full weekend in the rain of swapping parts around, and fixing various niggles, we still have a misfire. Great success. However we have gained a new symptom, the eml has come on. it glows really dimly. Fault code 21 flashes in diagnostic mode. ignition/signal during cranking or running not available. (or words to that effect). Both start and ignition wires are connected correctly and working perfectly.
So I am back to my original diagnosis of a failed ECU.
New S14a ecu with NATS removed by Slide motorsport (great guys, turned the ecu around in 1 day) and now we are just waiting on the S14a wiring loom to turn up. Looking like a busy Saturday of wiring in the new ECU. anyone want a broken s14 ecu in the tat auction at retrorides... haha.
see you all there. Fingers crossed and praying to the Japanese Gods of SR20 engines.

Just noticed I haven't updated the build thread in a while.
The last update was before Retro Rides Gathering 2018 which was awesome as always. The Nissan was less happy on the day after we suffered from a return of the misfire and a broken exhaust mount.
Since then we have adjusted the diff (LSD was too tight and it was lethal in the wet), replaced a broken driveshaft (CV boot failure went unnoticed and eventually the CV started knocking to let us know) and most importantly we finally actually fixed the misfire.
A combination of replacing the engine wiring loom, replacing the injector o seals and cleaning the MAF sensor again cured it.
The rear tyres have now mysteriously lost all their tread, so currently it has the standard 15" wheels on the back and looks like a fully dodgy drift wagon. Tyre shopping is this months task, plus the possibility of fitting a chip for more power...
