So I did have a 2nd track car already which was a Clio 172 Cup but I'm a JDM fan at heart. A friend of mine had an EF lying around he wasn't using that was built by a company that another mate of mine owns. So the Clio Sold at the weekend and I was offered the EF. After having two CRX previously, one of which had a B18 swap and various other Hondas. Anyway always fancied an EFand having the B18 already makes it perfect to turn this into a track car.

So been ordering goodies over the past week and they have started to arrive. Also popped to local custom exhaust company near Bristol Infinity-Exhausts. They made me up a bespoke 2.5" system that's stainless and track friendly. I now plan on racing this car in the local Hatch series in 2019 so this is now a race car build thread . The old system was a bodge of stainless and normal steel and was truly terrible as you can see. I need to run 100DB's at 4500rpm so a 10"x5" single silencer was made. On this car I wont be running the fuel tank on the underside which means on the EF I can run the system straight down the car improving flow. We also went for a large 2.5" bore. B series engine respond really well to breathing mods. The end result a reasonably light, durable system that improves performance.

I like this!
My friend has an EH and happened to be at infinity last weekend for a new system. He’s running the trusty D series though.
You guys run those farm track events in Wales don’t you? A friend of mine has shown me some videos and is planning to get to one when his EK9 is back together.

Look forward to seeing the progress. Should sound potent. Doesn't help my urge to give my ED DOHC, or a bigger exhaust for DC2, when I should be getting them on the road!

2.5" on a petrol 1600 is a bit overkill unless you're knocking on 250 bhp...

2.5" on a petrol 1600 is a bit overkill unless you're knocking on 250 bhp... I'm afraid that's not true mate. I have worked for a custom exhaust company in the past and also a dyno. and I can tell you first hand especially on NA Hondas a larger bore of at least 2.5" will increase your power by 10-15bhp with a standard B series or K series engine. Many of the Honda guys even run 3" if they can fit it under the car.

So will a normal bonnet fit over the B18 or require the Vtec bonnet.?.. or will you go for custom Vtec to close the gaps around smaller std headlights? That DOHC D16 bonnet looks a little wobbly, but a suppose is a common problem for plastic panels with heat. I still want to make a custom clamshell inc. fenders for my CRX project... one day..

Vtec engines react very well to proper intake/exhaust mods.. Ps bookmarked, keep up the good work!😁

Yea the standard bonnet bend over the B18 and currently touches so gone for a VTEC bonnet but with a 16v bulge in fibreglass, I can space it if needs be and will be fitted with bonnet pins.

No doubt you will see an increase if you go from 1.5 to 2.5, but 2 or 2.25 would be beneficial and give you some real world torque.
even WRC cars shifting enough air for 360 bhp just run 3"
my 240 bhp engine runs a 2.25 and 190 LBFT.

Sorry mate but I have seen first hand over quite a few years in different jobs that the size I have chosen works. I don't need to be told by someone else. 2" would strangle the B18 engine.

brief update spent a day stripping some more weight out the car. The sunroof was at least 20KG. Also stripped the front end ready for Fibreglass panels. Also picked up some pretty cool Carbon Kevlar seats for just £300
