On a similar note invite people like George from SOUP to do signing sessions, they might mention it in an episode in advance too.
They benefit from potentially gaining more viewers / subscribers / patreon payments and RR might benefit from people coming to the show who might not of heard of the RR shows or who make the effort to come to meet the guests.

Whilst I've little hands on experience, I've filmed a number of digital marketing conferences over the past couple of years. At these events I've noticed a number of trends, some of which couple apply here, and ultimately some of those trends have already been mentioned by other members.
I gather that it's good practice that all your social media work together, so for example if you posted some pictures on the forum, you might post on facebook, twitter and instagram to drive people to the forum, maybe with a teaser image. In theory this can bring anyone you're currently in touch with together. AFAIK the interlinked posts can help make it easier to find in google.
Along side this there's always lots of talk about content thats right for the platform. For example for a website people will happily sit down and watch a 3 min+ video, but on social media often people are looking for something shorter and more succinct. So if in this case it's a video of cars running up the hill, you could break it up into individual 10 second clips, and post them over several days on social media. Or it could mean separating your messaging a little, so your news type updates come via twitter but on instagram you keep it to aspirational cool car pictures.
Influencers are a big thing currently. If you can get appropriate celebrities of social media talking about you, whether thats through freebies or invites to events or whatever, then they are the ones who've put in all the hard work to build an audience of like minded people, and these huge audiences will then be aware of you.
Lastly, and this is something that does come from my professional experience in video production, I think its really important that before you send any content or messaging out, via whatever channel, that you have a really clear plan of who you're trying to reach, why you're trying to reach them and what you want them to do when they see your message/content. When you have the answers to these questions you can keep coming back to reference them and then you're more likely to be sending out a consistent message that will hopefully be the message you initially intended it to be.

Without repeating what's already been said, try and get some interview time in on a popular car podcast or vlogging channel.

Devise a high impact informative A4 poster that members can print out at home & pop in the window of their car if they're taking it to shows or using it as their everyday.

On other forums there is usually a section broken up into regional areas. Would it be an idea to have a representative from this region to organise a monthly/by monthly meet & post it on this forum & your Facebook page? Word of mouth from forum users will spread to other "locals". Or in the south west there is a monthly cars & coffee at Haynes motor museum & Queens square in Bristol. Would it be good to have the local rep putting free car stickers & Web page info under cars win screen wipers? It's a bit old school I know but it could work regionally all over the UK.

I see the core problem as how to target folk *not* already in our circle. The occasional Email I get ("Advance notice - RR Gathering tickets are on sale now!") is ideal for me, it does it's job, and I don't have to filter out "filler" emails. The existing email lists are a fantastic resource, but no use in this case. Search "promotional car sunshade" - something like this for sale at The Gathering stall on show day? 50 as promo freebies for the public? I'll happily buy the first one www.garrettspecialties.com/auto-sunshade-c-2_279.htmlMkX - agreed on both suggestions : "Go Яetro, go Lo-Tech." A high impact A4 poster that you can pop in the window when parked up will be noticed by "outsiders" ferny - invite media to shows. Yes Wait... there are people who don't have RR stickers in their cars? Yep - that would be me (and there's a good reason I can't see it changing) Clamity - I already get plenty of junk emails, sending me a weekly update would soon see me removing myself from the mailing list ianlea73 - putting your recyling (flyers etc) under my wiper is not a good way to make friends with me RR stickers may be an exception

Da Management could probably do with pulling together a small war cabinet?

Thanks so much for all this feedback, it is all interesting and I'm gradually digesting it. I'll tackle a couple of things, to see if that brings up any more interesting ideas. Press we actually do very well with press, with features in a range of magazines last year as well as a number of reasonably traffic'd websites. We haven't broken into the C&SC or Octane market and I don't think we ever will as (to paraphrase Skepta) that's not us. I'm pretty pleased with our show coverage and very thankful whenever anyone dedicates some column inches to us. Influencers this is definitely something on our radar and I should have mentioned in the original post. The problem here is who!? fr€$h&m1nt¥ mentioned SOUP, which is very good and everything, however their 4k reach is fairly modest, but if that is 4 thousand people that we could bring to shows or the site or whatever, then maybe that is perfect. I'm reasonably friendly with a car youtuber with over a million subscribers, but their content doesn't cross over with ours so it would be a little pointless (and probably impossible to get a shout out). Who else out there is on peoples radar for finding like minded folk on youtube and Instagram? Focus one of the things that has come out very clearly is "why?" which is a super important question. This is one of my fundamental issues, I do a lot all at once and some times it can be a bit unfocussed. We've got the shows and the site, primarily, but there are lots of little related things that kind of need my attention too. I shall have a think on some more meaty aims. Right now though and the thing that prompted the question originally was getting work about RR Weekender out there and I'm staring at my advertising budget and have no idea where to spend it (and I need to spend it soon! ) Flyers I have event flyers for Weekender arriving soon, so hopefully that is something we can get out there. I should look at flyers for the website too as that will help meet that "not on social" demographic that may not be aware of the site otherwise. Regionality This is something I need to revisit as we head towards summer and the whole breakfast club thing has really taken off here. I'd love for us to have representation at all of these things to show we are out there and buying some 70's, 80's or early 90's car and having a bit of fun is well within reach. Got more to think about too... and some PMs ... let me dwell on it and more ideas and thoughts welcome.

How about Jonny Smith @carpervert sharing details for a wider audience?
47k followers on Twitter, he frequents the forum, and has an eclectic taste in cars both old and new, standard and modified.

Can I mention something helpful to a lot of the posters on this thread. If you use Facebook (NOT on a phone though) with a download called Facebook Purity (or Fluffy Bunny Purity), all, and I mean ALL the annoying curse word goes away. No ads, no boost this or whatever. I love it!
On getting the name out there thing, I am in Ireland. And, here at least, the Vintage Club network is HUGE on Facebook. Worth contacting as they usually share each other events etc to a captive audience via Messenger and shares. Mine uses it for announcing Meeting, Organising where/when we meet for a Parade etc etc

Wait... there are people who don't have RR stickers in their cars? Yep - that would be me (and there's a good reason I can't see it changing) Ninjas are allergic to vinyl glue? I was listening to a very interesting thing about how what "our" generation ( @grumpynorthener and georgeb are excused at this point )think of as cutting edge and essential social media is already outdated and withering away on the vine. Facebook, Twitter (less so) and Insta are all thought of by the new generation as something their dad did. They don't like the progressive nature of it ... by which to say it rolls along on a timestream... they don't like the discipline needed and they definitely don't like the accountability. They want WhatsApp groups where they have local control and immediate deletion or exclusion, plus the ability to flounce at a moment's notice. Forums, needless to say, as as relevant as the dinosaurs and as far back in time to them. There's apparently strong evidence to say that within a few years this obsession with Facebook et al will be looked at with the same "awww, cute novelty kitsch" hindsight as the SNES or shell suits. Personally, I hope so. I hate it with a passion, and would rather poo in my hands and clap than spend time on Facebook with the tedious ennui of the dull proletariat scrolling past my brain, Ditto YouTubers, self-aggrandizing arrogance bloats every single one of them. I grew up in places like the Brixton Academy and the Marquee and the Roundhouse having slightly sweaty home-printed flyers pressed into my hand by be-dreadlocked tie-dyers. Sometimes I read them and thought "that sounds good, I might try that" and then they joined the others on the beer and spliff-littered floor. Sadly, my way of assimilating info about events hasn't got much beyond that. I go to shows and if someone gives me a flier I might learn about a new one. But I'll never find out through online or multi-media methods. I'm curse word at them and they bore me so I'm probably exactly the wrong audience to answer the OP

In my experience 'Pic for attention' really does work.
I run a gourmet burger restaurant with my brother and I only post to social media if we've got something to say, and a decent picture to go with it, otherwise it's just shouting into the wind. Whenever I see something that might work I make a mental note, take a photo and save it for when there's nothing to say and I want to remind people that we're there.
Also with regards to regionality I'd definitely be up for setting up a breakfast club in Kent.

Just had a chat with someone and we're going to look into setting something up in Canterbury, going to have a chat with the landowner tomorrow about it.
If I could get some Retro Rides branding on it then that's one way of reaching people sorted!!

do you have control over the adchoices which are now splicing individual replies in a thread ?
just a thought, but having a banner to the event in there would probably be eye catching, and less irritating than the fluke test probes i already bought from RS components 2 weeks ago
