As some have already done, I'll flip the argument the other way.
2 years ago I couldn't change a tyre. But I inherited a relatively rare and (to individual taste) cool car that needed some quite simple work to get it going again. And I've always wanted to learn about cars and mechanics.
However, simple work for you lot was a massive undertaking for me. Not knowing my crank from my cam shaft or my gear to my gaiter, this forum became invaluable to me in learning the basics, especially with a car with very little online following or information about it. My absolutely mundane posts ('how the hell do I remove the water pump!?') were always brilliantly answered and my knowledge was nurtured along the way.
By your logic, my posts are exactly the thing you're complaining about, while on the other foot, you're also complaining that the forum is dying and there's no new blood coming into the scene.
So which is it? My like can either curse word off and learn nothing about cars, keeping only super cool posts on this forum. Or, others like me can tap into the creativity of this forum and the generous members here, to cultivate the next generation of car enthusiasts.
Just my two cents. But I will say publicly, thank you to the members of this forum who've helped my clearly uninspiring and dull restoration over the last two years. Its very much appreciated.

This forum is far from dead And as for young people not being into retros Thats totally wrong , have a look at my boys thread Young George’s escort, he’s now almost 15 Works Saturdays in my mates garage and is looking to buy another old ford I find this forum superb, things move on people do other stuff and some people are stuck into the “that’s not a retro” attitude which I find very boring Life moves on car trends change, I love it and probably pop in up to 15 times a day, it’s a cheap drug for me!

over the 8/9yrs or so (under different user names) that i've been frequenting this den of nutters I have always found something new to get engrossed in. my eyes have been opened to new styles, new thoughts and new ways of doing things - I like that RR constantly evolves and that we are not stuck with one shrinking genre. The big thing for me is knowing that there are others out there with the same disease. have a pic that is the result of this evenings googling

I enjoy this forum. I read a lot but don't post as much as I might due to many of the topics of discussion, particularly legal matters, being quite foreign to me (not that I consider the heartland of the old Empire to be foreign, quite the reverse) being several generations removed from Mother England. I do wonder whether internet forums have a sort of half life like radioactive materials. I recently revisited another forum (not car related) that I used to participate in quite heavily and it is now a shadow of its former self. I suspect that many of the members I knew are dead or otherwise moved on. Please do not allow this to happen to RR.

I hadn't seen that, thanks! My 280Z thread is more of a parts gathering spree than anything else, I hoped to share some of the more interesting parts of moving to the US as well. I read far more than I post here, bit I'm always interested whenever a bookmark is updated.

He ascended to a higher plane of existance. Pretty much literally, he is all Porsche's up now. Still has his awesome Toyota though. He is on IG though and still posts car stuff.

God I hate that I have to have this conversation every year. Apparently this forum died the first time in about 2008, which I believe is before anyone else that has posted in this thread joined the forum. Don't get your knickers in a knot, I'd not seen this type of post before, but it is something that I had noticed personally. I am in no way berating the younger generation (or anyone for that matter), infact as a rule I try to encourage them to join in. Like a few people on this forum I have pretty little to offer in the way of mechanical talent, and have learned a lot from a lot of people here. It's just that for me atleast there doesn't seem to be the traffic these days. I look at the General Board somedays and it just seems a bit stagnant. I realise that in the grand scheme of things I've not been here as long as a lot of the other memebers, but I do try to post something every day that I hope to be of interest to someone somewhere, and dare I say it, maybe even encourage them to post something themselves. Like for example the 'show me hotrods' thread or 'show me black and white photos' thread. I kinda thought that people would get into that a bit and post up pictures, and i guess to an extent people have, but not as much as I thought. My feeling is that obviously what I am into to some extent is not what the general demographic of the members are into, which is fine, as it would be a dull old world if we all liked the same thing. But sometimes I wonder what the point of posting is if nobody is interested in what I post, and I guess that this is what a lot of other people think, which also stops them from posting. I carry on posting however, but I do often wonder if when I make a post on a thread that I have created which is not popular is it to the detriment of the more popular threads? Anyway, as I said originally wishing and hoping for this forum to be good and interesting again is all very well, but really the best thing we can all do is start posting interesting stuff And on that bombshell I'm heading off to look at a few peoples threads and find a few photos of cool Hotrods to share!

Don't think there is anything wrong with the forum , its always going to change for any manner of reasons .A big one being personal time . Maybe posters have a lot of time on there hands originally but then they do not . Family , partners , work , kids . Most , if not all need more time and are much more important than fiddling with a car .
Also its not within the realms that some people post about there achievements to gain praise , and failing them getting that have a hissy fit !

I've definitely noticed a gradual slowing of 'traffic'. I don't believe this all about the material in the forum.
I'm surprised this thread hasn't seen "Oh no you don't!" [Padlocked] yet.

God-dammit - I am still completely happy with this site, and all that goes with it.
People come and people go - I wish I still knocked about with a group of mates going to car shows, drinking and general debauchery - but that was 15/20 years ago.
I don't call them all up telling them to be like they were 15/20 years ago and moan at them for changing/moving on, so stop wanting it to be like it was and just like it as it is. Please.
Also, if I had the skills to build an ugly blue sheet metal vehicle from scratch and make it roadworthy, I would be really fcking proud of it - That is the soul of this place.
The more things change - the more they stay the same.

I really enjoy the diversity on here. The fact that one build thread is about restoring something and making it better than new, and the next is keeping something retro on the road... and everything in between. The risk of saying the threads are boring though, surely is that people will question if their thread is worthy. And yes it may just be buying a 1999 something or other and bolting some wheels on it, but that may be what it takes to fan the fire and that persons next build may be more interesting to you, and 5 build threads down the line you have THAT thread! There are some people who are natural story tellers, and have a way with words, others just document their builds, but in their own right each has merits. Depending on my day, I drop in probably at least once, and normally read stuff on here of an evening, but I don’t often comment (and when I do you get dross like this ) but I guess I consider myself a noob still! So, the threads are different, and it’s colder so quieter, but already builds are ramping up. So I guess another month and there will be loads of stuff to read about. Personally, I found the demanding attention because my build is much better than yours thing the most wearing And worryingly our fugitive isn’t a million miles away from the blue thing!
