Hi,
does anyone know a firm that can come and refit the windscreen, quarter glass and tailgate glass in my Rover SD1. Needs to be a firm that operates in Kent.
Would rather get a recommendation than just find a number online.
Thanks.

Jim - Don't know anybody out that way but it needs to be someone that understands what they are fitting and what to - if they have never heard of a Rover SD1 or fitted a windscreen to one - I would not trust them - you need someone with experience of the fitment rather than just a windscreen fitter that is used to fitting screens to everyday modern motors (but you are probably already aware of that) the bonded front screen can look a right mess if not done correctly - I fitted hundreds of these back in the day when SD1 was a current model and countless numbers to the traffic cars of both the South Yorkshire & Lancashire police forces - it's a pity that you are not a little closer to me - I would have willingly slotted them in for you - Chris

People don’t seem to like sd1’s. I rang a local fitter who specialises in classics yesterday. Spoke to his wife who said “oh he hates rover sd1’s and will probably say no, I’ll ask him and ring you back in an hour”. She never rang me back!

Jim - In between Reading & Basingstoke - it's not an impossible task - how far into Kent are you ?- SD1 screens were not too bad providing you knew how to go about them - it's just taking your time and having patience with the fitting of them - the rear screen and quarters are a doodle when compared the front screen - maybe we can find a way of sorting it if you cant find anyone out your way - Chris

Jim - you are 100 miles from me which has such is not a problem - however - I have next to no time at all between now and the NEC show - I also have 6 cars to organise for the show (5 being trailered) with the furthest coming from Switzerland + 2 van loads of workshop equipment and a large stand - If you cant find anyone to fit the glass in time do you know of anyone with a covered trailer that they could loan you ?

Think I’m sorted. Got a guy coming on Tuesday. Says he also hates sd1’s. Apparently he has done loads and has found that some aftermarket screens don’t have the correct profile. He said even some from factory could be bad and can be a pain to sitting nicely. Fingers crossed!

Jim - Sounds like you have found the right man - he is correct in making the point on the profile of the screens - he will probably dry fit your screen to the aperture to check before he bonds it in - trick in the meantime to is a couple of checks that you can do - get your windscreen out and place it on firm table with the outer face up - a loose car tyre / firm cushions / blankets placed on the table will support the screen - then trial fit your chrome trims loosely to the edge of the screen - (don't know if you are using the old trims or not) - things to look for is if the trims don't follow the profile of the screen and are sprained or twisted - minor tweaks can be made but if they are distorted I would purchase a new set (Rimmer's stock them has a set & individually) What stand / stand number are you on at the NEC - There are several RR members & cars on various stands in the show

One set looks straight, but ive only checked it against teh drift car. I have another car that if really necessary i could remove the trim. Not sure if the rimmers stuff will be straight or not? I will be on the Rover SD1 club stand. Where will you be?
