So how would you do it?
On certain cars, including one I'm working on, there is a foot pedal to operate the parking brake (formerly known as the handbrake). There is a release button on the dash, in this case a pull-handle with a cable release on it.
So there is nowhere to mount the factory foot brake to now. It was mounted to the pedal box which is now changed for a different one.
What to do? There is no place on the centre console for it, and to fit it would mean ugly, nasty hashing about and cutting up nice leather. The cable obviously reaches to the footwell. It's a single cable, that splits further back under the car. Mount a tiny hand-operated lever in the footwell somwhere? As it's a cable operation and not electric, it's actually not as easy to relocate as you might think.
Any Suggestions? I want to see if anyone has some genius solution I haven't thought of.

What car is it? I'm trying different solutions in my Nissan Gloria. I have a release handle above the pedal & no handbrake.

Under dash handbrake like many bench seat cars come with might be an option worth considering.

Could you use a 12v lever actuator mounted along the cable run out the way somewhere with wiring to a 12v switch in a discrete position?
Not worked out how the release would work but maybe an avenue of investigation.

Hi, What about mounting a handbrake lever on the side of the tunnel in front of the seat or by the sill between the seat and the door?

Ford rangers have a lever you pull out of the dash then twist to release.

Hi, Yes I think so, some BMC cars did as well, Cambridge being one. Jaguar Mk2 was another. Aston Martin used to have it on the tunnel in front of the seat. So it's not so left field. An 'umbrella' handbrake under the dash could be another option as mentioned. Colin

I'd be looking at an electronic actuator to pull the handbrake cables, like the X350 Jags and Renault systems do.

It's a BMW E38. I had been looking at Mercedes cable foot-brakes, trying to find one with suitable mounting points. However, having looked at the links provided above to the aftermarket kits, I realise that it's not all *that* complicated to figure the wiring of one out - probably easier in all reality than figuring out how to mount a non-standard physical lever action one. I've just got a E65 745i in for spares too and that has an electric brake in it, so it looks like that might be the way forward, given I should then have any switches, plugs or cables that I need. I will keep notes of what I do as it's likely to come up again...
