The spring pads are sometimes called spring perches or spacers. They sit in the top mount on top of the spring. The fronts come in 5 difference thicknesses and the rears in 4 difference thicknesses. Obviously the thinner one used - the lower the car will sit. They are identified by the number of small "pips" on the lower rim of the rubber. So make sure, firstly, what ones are already fitted to your car and secondly whats ones are on the car that your getting your parts from. They are very cheap if ordered from Mercedes themselves and here are the part numbers. FRONT 210 321 01 84 - #1 210 321 02 84 - #2 210 321 03 84 - #3 210 321 04 84 - #4 210 321 05 84 - #5
REAR 210 325 01 84 - #1 210 325 02 84 - #2 210 325 03 84 - #3 210 325 04 84 - #4
#1 is 8mm thick (the thinnest thus lowest) and they go up in 5mm increments from there.
Regarding your new wheels, use the rears with a 10mm spacer bringing the et to 38mm and they will be fine with the correct bolts and 265/35 tyres. The fronts should go on fine without spacers and with 235/40 tyres and the correct bolts.

Awesome thank you for your help. Any suggestion on what kind of bolts as in length ect? Can you remember what you used on your car spacer wise? Cheers I used #1 pads all round on my car. As for bolts.... ideally you need a M12 bolt with a 14mm ball seat to fit your new wheels to your car. As I explained earlier in this thread, is because the wheels that you have bought are from a CLS which uses a 14mm bolt and your car uses a 12mm bolt and often the 12mm bolts ball seat isnt large enough to sit properly in the seating of a wheel drilled for 14mm bolts. A company called RAD make a bolt specifically to fit M14 wheels to M12 hubs. As for length, you need to measure that yourself by taking off one of your existing wheels and putting a bolt through the hole and measuring how much protrudes through the back. Then put the bolt through one of new wheels and see if theres a difference. If there is , subtract or add accordingly and that will be the length of the bolt you need but PLUS 10mm for the rears to accomodate the spacers you will need (unless, off course you get a bolt on spacer kit).

I did play with my new wheels for a bit. I understood that the rear would not fit but so far no problem. It's clearing well. Even without spacers. However 285 x 35 x 18 are like tractor tires and way to big. As advised I'll get some 265 x 35's The front with 255 x 40 doesn't clear at all. But looking at the original size of 205 x 55 and the 255's there is more than an inch in it. I am now looking at 225 x 40. That's less than 0.2 Inch difference. I have bought a second hand 225, just to try. TBC

I hope that these 225's will not catch. They are a little bit smaller than your 235's. Offset will play part in this as well. I am picking up that second hand one tomorrow and will have a really good look at these things.
Thanks

I have 235/40's on my 18" and they catch on front wing when going over big bumps Thats odd. 235/40 is the stock size on the front of a W210 with 18s. I.E. E55. Maybe those RS5s on yours are low offset (SL fitment)?

Could be? They were on it when I got it and only just catches on N/S, not O/S so something could be loose under the arch - -never looked.

The 225's fit perfect. No rubbing, catching etc. Unfortunately I damaged 1 wheel. I have only one arm in action at the moment and I just dropped one wheel face down on the concrete. It looks really bad but I'll get it fixed. It has damaged the clear big time. But if get it fixed soon all should be good and looking like new again.
Sop story about my arm I went to the beach with a few students from school. I have done this many times before. You will understand that as responsible leader you are counting heads all the time. 5 kids in the water 2 on the beach, 4 in the water 3 on the beach. I leave "my kids" not 1 minute out of sight! I am never by myself. There is always a co-worker. All went well till I just counted heads in the water and I turned around in knee deep water to count heads on the beach. As I turned around I got knocked down by a bit of a freak wave. I dislocated my arm upwards. While doing so it locked up and I had to get out the water with 1 arm in the air using the other to support this. Must have been a silly sight. I warned one of the boys that I was going to the life savers and possibly needed to go to the hospital. This boy did warn my co-worker. Unfortunately 60+ minutes passed between my fall and the ambo's arriving. I had kidney stones in the passed. This is about the same level of pain..... That happy gas could not come quick enough. Anyway, I got my gear and did end up in hospital. After my arm was put back some Xrays were made. 1 broken humeral head and couple of torn tendons. Specialist sent me for a CT Scan and an MRI The news was not so good. My humeral head is broken , my scapula is broken, I have nerve damage and my tendons are torn. I have survived 51 years without braking a bone, never torn a tendon or done nerve damage. I have had stitches about everywhere but this is new.... I can tell you it's not fun. Fortunately it looks like things will be good again but I will be of from work for some time. All this because of a silly wave.
So, all up I am at home and can't do much. I am close to getting 4 new tires and when my son gets back home he can give me a hand with fitting these wheels. I did end up buying 3mm spacers. 3mm is nothing but it's in my opinion just right.
Lowering is next. I am shopping around as we speak!
Cheers

Ouch! Sorry to hear about the arm rblote , having done the kidney stones thing myself a few times, I feel your pain. The Merc is lovely man. Looking forward to seeing the progress. It's hard to believe that these are considered to be kind of old school now! I still think the W124 is newish! I'm getting old.. Love the wheels by the way. Get well soon. CFD

It should be a big day today as I am picking up the Merc later this afternoon. It should have been lowered, tinted and wheels installed. It has had a major service as well. I hope to put up some photo's tomorrow

I picked her/him up just a few hours ago. This was my first time really driving it. I am very happy how it looks. It needs a clean but all up it looks great. My son wants to detail it. Who am I, to say no to him. He bought clay bars etc. So, "cat walk" photo's will happen later

I am thinking of getting the black bottom bits painted silver, same as the car. What do you think?

I would say leave them black.
Those black bits are a trick often applied by manufacturers to help with the cars' silhouette, and optically make the car look longer / less tall. If you paint them, it will look a bit 'lower' —but it will also probably feel a bit dumpier at the same time.

I agree with littlepixel about thinking twice about that. But, you might get away with a gunmetal grey or something similar....though the black does look nice in my opinion. Silver would look good too, but it will change the appearance of the car making it look a bit bulkier. something like this? JP edit: on second thought, I kinda like it!

Hello all.
Not much happened besides a service at K & G Automotive in Brisbane. I haven't used the Merc much but when I did I noticed that the car went in silly mode on full acceleration. Hard kick down and it would start running on 4 cylinders. I had to pull over, turn the car of and all would be good again. No happy. I really wanted a specialist to have a look at the car. K & G Automotive were able to check it right there and then. He found a faulty Air flow meter, 12 wrong plugs and old leads. As it was still early in the afternoon I was able to leave the car and use one of their (free) courtesy cars. I did not know that this thing had 2 plugs per cylinder. Anyway I picked the car up 3 hours later and was taken for a test run. Well, what a difference. I noticed a difference straight away. It was running better and we had not even moved the car. Anyway my new mechanic gave it a bit of stick and man, the old girl was flying. 100% different car. I am very happy with it.
The car has also dropped a little bit more. Not much, but I can see it. It looks great without dragging it's belly over every speed hump.
It is going into the paint shop in 10 days. It will get its skirts painted in Silver as seen in 07lilredwagon photo above.
I also ordered new floor mats as I hate the indestructible but bud ugly rubber floor mats. I got them in charcoal/dark grey not the usual black. It's interior is mainly grey. I hope I made the right choice.
Will keep you posted

My drivers side mirror got damaged at some stage I bought a new one on Ebay.....but of course it didn't fit. I had to make it fit and the automatic dimming side of things is now not working. However I was offered my money back but need to find one that is the correct one. Lots of differences hey. This is how it looks now. It's better anyway Then I went for a drive and made some photo's I also bought personal plates putting the painting of the bumper bars on hold.
