Seems to me the motorist is always first on the hit list. Will the last person to leave the country please turn off the lights!

It's the first year tax rate that's going up, so that's on brand new cars. The tax increases for subsequent years on cars newer than 2001 seem to be going up by 10 or 15 quid a year, so not much really. Nothing to worry about unless you're buying a brand new car.

So if I've read this right, by buying one of their fabled 'hybrids' you save a tenner a year??
Or I can use my 1969 1600E and pay nothing?

Not a very well written article, it makes it sound like the new rules will affect all cars, rather than just the new ones since the change. This for example:
"For instance, a car registered between 1 March 2001 and 31 March 2017 that emits between 111-120g/km of CO2, was incurring £30 in road tax.
From this April, however, the new rules mean it will cost the owner £140 to tax his or her car – up more than 350%."
Is simply not true and will probably scare a few people unnecessarily.
