Hello all, not sure this is the right place but here goes. I'm after a bit of impartial old-school advice as we're talking carbs not injection here. We're also talking v-twin 950cc with a possibility of less than 4 wheels Basically, bought new used it until it was run-in, got it serviced then stored it unused for the past 6 years! Shocking I know but there are reasons for which I won't go into here (very dull and boring)
I now have it back home in the garage after clearing a space for it and I am determined to get it back on the road by doing as much work as is necessary myself before calling on expert help. I've just bought a new Li-On battery in readiness for my plans.
I plan to drain the tank of the stale fuel, remove the plugs and turn the engine and gearbox over manually to get the oil moving again before I attempt a startup off the battery. I know the carbs are going to cause me grief and will probably need a strip and clean to clear the gummed up jets and possible varnish but I have no idea how to do this and the prospect seems pretty daunting. Does anyone have any thoughts and recommendations as to best way forward for me? I know the easiest way would be to pay someone to do it and ordinarily I would. However I now have the time and mojo to do as much as I can myself. No doubt tyres will also be needed following such a long layup!
Mods, I understand if you feel this shouldn't be here but RR are a helpful bunch and I'm after general advice not specific to the type of vehicle. If this stays up I may confirm exactly what we're dealing with here and drop a picture
