Anybody on here got one? Since living over here I've gotten a bit obsessed with them. Picked up a heavy duty one locally for much cheapness as I was needing a workbench anyway, and I've picked up a couple of the folding ones since. They seem to be really popular in the aircooled VW world, although they are brilliant in their own right. My 172HD: And my 166s: Pretty useless in my tiny rented garage, but brilliant on those days where you get to work on the driveway in the sun!

Yeh I used to have one years ago, not sure what happened to it tbh. Probably popular in the air cooled dub world because, let’s face it, you might as well have one thing that’s reliable!

They are nice looking from a retro design point of view, just looked on ebay and the prices were a bit off putting though. I think id opt for a boring tool chest and wheel that outside personally.

Funnily enough I didn’t know they existed until I watched soup classic cars (episode 12 I think) on YouTube today and saw an interview with a guy that has one.
Think he said some try and sell them for £700?! Don’t know how much they actually sell for rather than price they’re listed as but look pretty cool if you stumble across one at a decent price.

Have seen these around on the net but never in the flesh. Hazet tools are not as well recognised in the uk, I have only known one tool dealer who sold them. More recognised in the vw circles as they made the tools for the tool kits for the beetles maybe more models? ?. They do look nice to me...

I had three of them. My father in law was German and did his apprenticeship at Porsche. Gave them away to three good friends when I left South Africa,( He was sent to South Africa in the 1960's when Porsche set up a dealership there. Still have a lot of his Hazet and Stahlwille tools...Streets ahead of Snap On

They also made an awesome tool cupboard that was wall mounted. Only ever seen one of them

These are great looking things especially with a bit of garage patina! One on eBay at the moment for £300.

I’d love something like that. Instead, I rely on three fold out boxes!

Hazet make the iconic tool boxes that fit in the Beetle spare wheel. Much sought after and obscenely expensive (when they turn up). Last ones I seen have all been over the 800 quid mark. They're supposedly great quality and were offered as an option at VW dealers back in the day, but....I mean, they're nice and all But you have to be a special kind of originality freakoid to pay over four times what a brand new and equally functional EMPI one would cost you. IMHO, of course

I saw that EMPI were making Tourist repros. I'd rather eat one than use one - every recent EMPI product I've bought or had the misfortune of trying to use has been utter, utter garbage.

Just found the EMPI tourist on VW Heritage with these two completely opposite statements:
Quality:
Top Quality
Fitting:
Tools Supplied should be considered for show only.
FFS.

Tools Supplied should be considered for show only. FFS. Maybe that's why then I guess not everything with scene tax is arbitrarily expensive

Holy thread revival Batman! The 914 and the T4 in that first post of mine are gone now, but the Assistents remain. I picked up another today - I've never seen one like this before, and can't find any info online, either. Looks like it'll be a perfect thing for rebuilding flat fours on. Get a wee stool and a beer on the go.

i currently have 4 of the assistants.. can pick them up pretty cheaply on occasion,
have a early 70s 161 (the single shelf type) was lookign for a 162 or 166TS for ages and a really rough example of a 166 turned up localy, which ive started restoring... also picked up an Atorn branded one from the same guy, Atorn being an industrial tool and supply company owned by Hazets parent company
exactly the same as a later assistant, but white
while i was restoring the 161, i found another very cheap 166TS in germany.. which i dueally bought as its in far better condition than the first one, needed welding to the tub as had cracked.. which they doo if overloaded.
going to keep the second 166 and sell the first once its been restored, need to get round to doing that asap, just the paintwork to do as it had been completly sprayed white really badly :I
i do want a 172 and/or one of the wall cabs if i ever find one at a reasonable price

I have a similar vintage Stahlwille Rollmaster, I keep all my car cleaning stuff in it, very handy. [/img]
