Connecting up a new stereo in my BMW, wanted to retain steering wheel control - saw that Connects2 did a magic box for about 70 quid.
Checked eBay, saw a couple for 20 quid (you can see where this is going...) branded as Connect2
It arrives, dusty but sealed in packaging and looking legit. Got around to fitting it but the connections were wobbly and kept dropping out - it worked intermittently, then stopped altogether.
Contacted the seller, they've refunded me almost immediately and told me to bin it.
Helpful seller, or a case of 'but cheap, buy twice' I wonder?

It might be worth dropping the manufacturer a line, asking them if what you have is counterfeit. You've had your money back off the seller, so if they ask you to send it to them and it turns out to be fake, the worst case is you've not got the faulty interface any more. Best case and it's a real one they might send you a replacement.

Who did you buy it off? You can PM me if you don't wish to name and shame. I got mine for InCarTec ; it works like a dream, except the calling button on my M3's steering wheel ; I have factory Bluetooth which is cited as a reason for that and given that I may return the car back to factory I decided to leave that be. It was not too expensive. For a non Harman Kardon car it's about £30. I've had it in the car now for almost 2 years and 11,000 miles. incartec.co.uk/Pages/Product.aspx?P=2531That was on an Alpine HU. I'll see if it works on the new Sony.

Message sent.
I've ordered a replacement from a more established seller at much closer to the rrp...might just take your suggestion and contact the company. No harm in asking...

if its a known brand there will be someone copying it, it will usually be a 'UK seller' who is selling on behalf of or just bought a batch of cheap fakes from China.
Have a close look at the packaging, the barcode and writing won't have sharp defined lines, the colour will be slightly off or faded and the wrap will feel cheap. Good advice by 'Benzboy' about contacting the maker.
