I once had an earlier one - A 2.2 Petrol on in this green but sat on gold alleycat rims. Loved that car.

I was having a look around at 80's alternative barges (rather than the usual Mercs and things) earlier and realised that the Audi 100 is super cheap and I suspect very tuneable. Also co-incidentally a couple pop up in my online wanderings looking for something else, so thought I'd share. OOOOF thats awesome.

My old 85’ 100 from a few years a go. The springs were chopped badly and out of the 6 months I owned it it was on the road for 3 weeks. Had blue velour interior but certain parts are hard to get. Coilovers aren’t available off the shelf so thinking caps need to be worn. The car caused me a lot of grief and was written off in the end but I still miss it.

I had a 100 S4 for a while, 2.2 20v turbo 5-cyl. Never quite worked properly as it had a misfire at 4k rpm, yet was pretty fast. The 30 secs it worked correctly, it was savageLowered so scraped on everything, yet didn't look low. *library image

I ran a 100 Avant for a while. It was great but it stayed at the standard ride height because of pigtail springs and aftermaket ones costing more than the car was worth.
I think my pictures are all lost to photobucket.

I had a first year A6 Avant, 2.5 tdi for quite a few years. Stock except for later A6 16" alloys, swapped the motor for a Volvo V70-sourced one when the old one gave up at 198k miles. Sold it through here a while back. I always wanted to lower it over 17" Porsche twists and paint the top half in charcoal over the stock white bottom half.

I guess the A4 and A6 Avants are getting into that edge of Retro territory a bit now. It sounds like the 100 may not have been the most reliable car ever

My Mum's friend had a 200E when they were new in about 1981. I was 9 and I remember that car like it was yesterday. The beautiful thrum of the 5-cylinder lump, electric everything, the awesome four headlight grille and the holey headrests. Think they put about 100k of hard miles on it before exchanging it for a 100 Avant. That car never missed a beat. I would love it now, but I reckon it's long gone. Can't remember the reg though and don't have a photo. Looked much like this one.

My uncle used to have one of these: An 80 Sport. It's interesting as the car would have been around 10 years old then in the mid 90s, but it had a few hallmarks of being a wreck ; for a backbox hanger it had a chain holding it up, no word of a lie. Unsurprisingly it was a car that was mocked a bit of the time in our circles. It wasn't even driven that much! Maybe it was just a bit of a dog. It's funny because it makes me think of what was considered a classic back then. The Jensen Interceptors were, as so were the rubber bumper MGBs, albeit seen then a little like now and the more inferior MGB, with little being known about its V8 body sharing. I also remember no many years after my dad's D reg Metro Turbo rusting in strange places bar the sills and a few years on the MkIV XR3i rotting just about everywhere underneath.

From my experiences, I think you don't see many done, or many at all, is because they are 'difficult' cars to own.
Parts backup is nigh on non-existent, and if/when you find the parts they'll be expensive. I even struggled to get a balljoint and track rod end. The front suspension design is problematic if you want to lower them, even with a full machine shop they're not easy to get to sit right, wheel choice is critical for them not to hit the steeringg and still fit under the arches. Everything will need to be custom made as no one supplies anything for them. they also seem to be fairly unreliable, lots of posts about niggly hard to cure running problems and gearbox problems, both manual and auto. The idea that they're a 'VAG parts bin car' is a myth, even ones with the 'same' engines as more mainstream models have so many ancillary parts differences it makes stuff hard to get. And they rust.
This is probably why there's so few left, the average owner just gives up and gets rid and gets something they can buy parts over the counter for. Which means second hand parts are also hard to get as no scrap yard sees a value to keeping them for parts.

Hi there I agree with the above comments, sure you get some people on eBay breaking them but there breaking for a reason. And the parts at audi dealership is a joke to say the least. NLA is what you ll get told. Unless you go to the audi tradition website which in fairness is good but can be very, very, expensive.i have owned 3 of these 2 where later models 2.5 tdi 6 speed manual. Very good and enjoyed them all.and I would have another one in a heartbeat. But again parts are a downside.
