Definitely a great episode!
I was a little sad to see the Bond Bug cut up but it was into something quite cool and a few people I know were pleased to see it in that state! They are a very Marmite car it can be said!

I for one will not enjoy seeing a Bond Bug being cut up. It's one of the first ever unusual cars I got to have a go in as a tiny lad, when a neighbour owned one for a while and took my round the block in it. It was terrifying... because the neighbour was about 7 ft tall and weighed at least 25 stone and all the corners were lefts, meaning it dug in horribly as we scooted round. I have no idea why such a big bloke thought it was a good idea to buy a Bond Bug, but he didn't have it long so I assume the penny dropped fairly quickly for him too.
I always wanted one as a kid though, and I still love them now. They ought to be preserved.
Damn you Clarkson.

I really really like the Bond Bug with the offset wheels in those external pods. Looks awesome.

Of the whole series, the Lancia segment was fantastic. Aside from that it's a bit dead. The 15 mins of obscure celebrity match up and thrash a jag is unwatchable dross. Conversation street is a close second in the unwatchable stakes. It's been better this season but it's still not a patch on The News from Top Gear.
I'm glad the American is gone but the whole race driver/lap time thing seems well past its best. This is possibly just me not being excited about whatever the latest £43453465023402353245 hyper-super-dooper-mega-bonkers car is as much as it is tedium in the nature of the segment. But it feels like it lacks a bit of sizzle. If you must do lap times could you introduce some variety in it? Do an old car thing or curse word car thing once a week and time the lap for absurdity sake.
The last episode had a bit of a nasty undercurrent to it. It seems its all about destruction and being terrible to each other. May's anger didn't seem haha funny, it seemed genuine. And the premise was awful and tone deaf. Let's feed Africa! And make jokes about it! Then fail to feed anyone with anything other than 2 fish. That's in the very poorest of taste. It feels like they've run out of ideas.
I'm very interested in seeing what the new Top Gear is like now that it's got the presenters it should have had from the get go.

Maybe I just don’t get it but it felt like very bad taste to me. A few funny moments but otherwise left me feeling quite uncomfortable and a bit confused?

Thought the previous few episodes were fantastic. The best yet and just seemed to raise the bar each time, but the series finale special was wide of the mark. There were a few good moments. The first time May got soaked from his aquarium I think was genuinely unexpected and brilliant, but the rest seemed a bit samey and nothing really interesting happened.

Makes me wonder if they made the last episode that shocking so they don't get another series commissioned, they must be getting tired of all the travelling by now and can't be doing it for the cash.
Shame really as I enjoyed all of the previous episodes.

I think their last episode had a bit of satire about it and was an open attack the Live Aid people and even the wealthy TBH. It wasn't my favourite but there were a few valid points and things were exposed about Mozambique, such as the massive disparity between locations that really don't seem that far away on a map in or in a business meeting. That is until you see the terrain and what you have to contend with. I'm beginning to sound like a once very popular member here and Beach Party organiser but songs, words and so on will only solve that poverty issue so far as opposed to a large scale active effort on the ground. Maybe I read too many of his ramblings at times but appreciate where he is coming from . It's something they did back in the US days when they showed downtown Alabama (but you wonder how much of that was true) ; the New Orleans scenaro however was certainly very daunting and alot of food for thought.

Yeahhhh, that last episode left me queasy. It was really the most unambiguous declaration of their good fortune imaginable. I can sort of see - in hindsight, based on Chas's comment directly above - how they were actually using their good fortune and buffoonery to demonstrate the practical issues of creating supply chains from the coast to the interior, but honestly... I'm not sure they ever had that noble intention in mind when they created that sequence. I'm fairly sure they just thought "It will more of that *heelarious* fodder we churn out and we can wind up the doo-gooder posse at the same time".
I think there were two worthwhile segments in that whole series, and they were great. The rest was missable, predictable dross.
So, did anyone catch the new episode of Top Gear this weekend?
My thoughts on that were there still isn't much chemistry between the presenters. It felt a bit stilted and self-conscious at times, but I really think it has more promise than GT.
I thought the Ken Block segment was just terrible. An awful way to squander the budget and waste the time of a talented driver. It was all so 'colour by numbers' it made me cringe.
That said, the show seemed to have more dramatic impact and appeal than GT seems to have had. They seem to have returned to the great ingredients of TG of old with very high production values and attention to camera work and editing to create drama.
I think in lots of ways they now have three really promising presenters. Part of me though wonders whether ultimately Matt LeBlanc might be superfluous and Rory and Chris might actually need a different foil.
One thing the GT three have is a set of opposing characters. They are like Scissors, Paper, Stone. Each can be beaten by the other, and each has a property that defines them. I don't really get the same feeling from Matt, Rory and Chris yet. Matt is the technical boffin, Rory is the look and feel man. Matt is... I don't know, but I don't think he's able to play off the other two with much more than the fact that he's American and so culturally a bit different. I think he has great screen presence and delivers great lines... but he needs to find out where he has alliances with the other two, and points of disagreement with them.
They need to slot those three together better. They're all just there at the moment.

Going to watch TG tonight. Not looking forward to the Ken Block bit - been done to death now and getting boring.

The Block bit was for the most part naff but the McLaren drift was epic!!! He held that for ages at some serious speed! On the three presenters. They are 75% there in my opinion, mostly good and well timed but every now and then they do a bit that makes my skin crawl. But when I watch top gear circa 2004 they were no better

is there any chance that Forum Mods can split off the new Top Gear parts and create a new thread?
anyway regarding the GT latest series, I watched the first two maybe three but it was becoming more and more of a faff to see it via Kodi on a media pc, if I have to waste a load of time trying to view then I weigh up whether to bother or not, on the first couple I found myself clock watching, and thinking about other things, I may have paused and later come back to it, but it wasnt holding my interest anymore and I have not bothered to look for the remainder of the series.
James May is still a top fella and makes good programmes, I don't think there is anything he has done that I dislike, Richard Hammond is irritating, and Clarkson more so nowadays, and I think TV has moved on slightly from the type of humour he tries to convey.

First Episode of the new series of Top Gear was pretty abysmal, but the corresponding episode of Extra Gear was excellent.
