That sucks.
Don't know if there is much you can do - probably nothing as far as actually getting the car, but you can file a complaint with eBay that will sully his reputation or maybe even get him banned.
On the other hand, he'll probably be able to make a new account, but at least you will help him realize he can't be a total foxhead without repercussions

Report him for completing the transaction off ebay, they lost their fees so they'll do something about it.

I won some alloys a while back and the seller refused to honour the bid / auction
Pretty annoying as the buyer doesn't get sent the address etc, only the seller does to 'send' the item.
I contacted Ebay to report the seller for not honouring the auction, they couldn't care less and told me to simply buy another item. Not what I wanted as they were rare wheels at a good price, sent the seller a load of messages asking to pay / collect etc with no reply.
Ebay then refused to release the sellers contact details to me, I said the auction was a legal contract and the seller was legally bound to for fill it. Ebay said that is correct however the contract is between the seller and buyer and nothing to do with them. So again I asked them to give me the sellers address and contact number so that I can complete the sale of the contract they had created on our behalf. No luck they refused, said it's against their privacy policy.
waste of time!

Not good ..and why wouldn’t you want to deal with the Irish folk, they lay a lovely driveway and are top tree surgeons !! Joking aside that’s not right but eBay are a law unto themselves Shame you can’t get an address and pay a visit with a few chaps🙂

The other way round - a mate sold a car on ebay the other day, then the buyer contacted him to say they thought they'd bid too much and would he drop the price.
When I sold my caravan the guy rolled up to collect it in a car without a towbar fitted. These are the kind of muppets that inhabit the world of ebay.
I sold some heaters a few weeks ago and the guy asked for my phone number so we could arrange collection - only ebay now blocks people messaging phone numbers via their message facility. So how are people meant to make the necessary arrangements.
I rarely use it these days, and never ever ever for buying selling cars.

Indeed I've only listed a car on there once, the buyer came to collect it then said they couldn't insure it due to it having alloys, which were clearly in the ad!
How did they take the caravan with no tow bar?

Alert ebay - send them the mail chain.
If you are feeling particularly spiteful report him to the police for racism.

After I've finished with this image uploading and management thing (which is moving forward nicely again now after being stuck in a bit of development hell for a few weeks), I'll turn my attention to using the tech for some kind of ebay-ish thing for car folk. Although I'd do it the yahoo Auction way where more time is added when a bid is put in. Still not sure how I'd solve this issue, but just thought I'd put it out there

I had it with someone who was on ere selling a car on ebay. Didn't like what i won it for,and didn't like what he thought i was going to do with it, told me so after the auction.
Just how it is, for me buying a car now of ebay i would always turn up and offer money in person, ebays a waste of time fees for this that, no protection for either side.

I won a set of wheels a couple of years ago, £24 for four all terrain tyres on suzuki rims if I remember correctly. Seller never answered my messages so I called in the Ebay police and after reviewing the case they refunded me. Sadly that was not the outcome I was looking for as I really wanted the tyres. About a week later I went to show a work colleague who makes a living selling stuff properly on ebay and the sellers ID had been revoked. The work colleague said that happens on the third or fourth offence if they refuse to complete the deal or continually ignore messages.
I used to sell quite expensive gaming controllers that had been refurbished or repaired by myself, always played by the rules. Stated very plainly that I would NOT ship outside the UK in about four places on the listings, said that removing any item from the UK would invalidate the warranty I gave. So one bloke used a false UK email address, had it sent to a 'shipping agent' and four weeks later got in touch to tell me that a bit of it was broken by the 'courier' and demanded a spare part. I had a spare so sent it to the same shipping agent - not my problem anymore. Paypal froze the funds twice during the course of this until I sent them all the ebay message content.
It has gone downhill recently though and there are some proper numpties too.

Unfortunately for all the rules Ebay make it is all just lip service they do not give a damn and do not want to get involved.
Won some car parts and the seller said he had sold them outside of Ebay (sound familiar)
Parts appeared two weeks later as the private sale had fell through.
Called Ebay to say they were my parts and to remove the auction
Told to make a complaint blah blah blah they didn't give a toss legalised thieves (ebay)

It is a minefield on ebay but on the other side of the coin i bid and won a fiesta last week and the car was under described, way better than the advert said and i got it for the same as a 3 year older motor i was bidding on (and lost). Only modern tat bit it was one the most pleasant transactions i've ever had, even got a decent cup of tea and he put half a tank of fuel in so i could get home (even though i live 3 miles away), TBH i may give up buying on ebay right now as it'll all be downhill form now on It does annoy me cos i allways go the extra mile for a buyer, IE changing post type, extra packaging if it's going abroad ect ect, shame most ebayers don't actually give a stuff about thier feedback, i've spent years keeping my 100% feedback but it has been a struggle, then there are the huge feedback sellers who turn over so much they also don't give a stuff! Pesonly i'd be making not a fake account and never ever messing with that sellers other future auctions

Yep, ebay is utter rubbish these days. Not really interested in anything apart from grabbing your money. If it goes well, then great, but if you get faffed around, then ebay couldn't give a rats bottom. And the less said about some of the fuckwits that infect ebay the better! You better off just forgetting about it fella, there will be another one along soon, and you might even find the seller re-lists it!

it has become a PITA to view things before you bid on them on ebay. After all, Good condition to me could be a immaculate to someone else and vice versa.
That said, I am one of "those" bidders ATM.
I won a car, albeit cheaply. It's been almost two weeks. I was going to collect it this weekend, but something has come up. While the buyer has been understanding I know I'd be funny about it if I was waiting for 3 weeks to get a car sold! I've put a deposit down to be fair. I've been on it on the other side mind you but generally with people fully settling up the bill (i.e, paying by cheque).
I remember once selling a car to a Red Bull Tyre fitter. I am amazed that he managed to somehow juggle the time between the races to make it back, even if it was a week later than he said!

Guess I must be lucky then. I've bought my last four cars and my wife's car on the local equivalent of ebay with no trouble at all. Always cash on collection though. Wouldn't consider paying any other way. That said there are plenty of idiots to be found here too.
