I have my licence but never show it on demand. I only ever show a bank card for identity. I always got told never to show anything when you get stopped as you can be issued a fine on the spot. Whereas if you don't - they have to give you a producer to show your documents at a station within 14 days and it's more paperwork/hassle. Then more change you'll be told to go on your way. Don't know if this is true but the only time I showed my licence was the one time I got a fine!
That's a load of curse word.
In short the police do not give on the spot fines to UK licence holders they will issue an FPN for you to pay later if you have committed an offence, they can easily check via PNC if you hold a licence or insurance and the status of the MOT if there is any doubt over your licence or insurance it is very unlikely that you get a 'producer' but more likely that your car will be impounded until you then produce your documents.
The days of a 'producer' are long gone except in rare circumstances .So showing your licence won't make any difference, if anything it can help you prove you are legit.
There is a bit of a kudos (and an unofficial leaders board) to the cop that gets the most SEC165 (No insurance or licence) seizures especially with RPU's.
Thanks for clarifying.
