Welcome to the restomod thread of my Alfa. The 75, or Milano, depends if you read outside Europe. This car had a troubled life, and i pratically saved her from the scrapyard. Something like 5-6 owner in is life, 204'000km, 400€ plus 600€ for the paper (893£). The previous owner was a bricklayer, and used it as a truck. Drills, concrete, bricks, and every dirty tools find is way inside the trunk and not only there. Here some pics from where i went to try it: Aaaaand yes, those on the horn are cable ties. It was a disaster. It run with only 3 cilynders, clutch dead, noisy gearbox, every engine mounts ruined, eccetera. Even the keys where rotten... they dropped even with the car turned on. At least i had A/C (mounted, not working). And so, with that in mind, i bought it.

First thing to do? Get everything off. The old 1.8 litre was cracked, with 2 liters of water and 3 of black greasy oil leaving the oil pan. So, i swapped it with a 2.0 litre Twin Spark, repainted the engine compartment, reconditioned pedals and brake booster: New clutch, various new minor parts, especially rubber ones. But the main problem was the interior and body. I needed some more fresh parts. Then i found an abandoned 75 1.8 Indy. Look like a disaster? Not so much, with some cleaning and decent light. Such a shame, only 86'000km on the clock. But i already own one, and the previous owner of the Indy selled it to me exclusively for spare parts. Than the looooooong way started... bodywork, with the transplant of the mayor of interior plastics, with some modyfications for better durability (on the door cards with some VTR), new turn light lenses, fog lights, new windscreen. I recently started reassembly her. Meanwhile, I worked on the gearbox, using the one of the Indy: a wash, new gaskets, rubber mounts, eccetera. Soon it will go on, togheter with new silentblocks, suspensions and some other little gadgets. Soon with new updates...

Those are great cars, fiddly, but great. Amazed that you actually found the 'abandoned' one with so few km's in it. They did have the tendency to go wrong, but finding one that has stood for so long and not being scrapped... guess it was meant to be, waiting to bring new life to the interior of yours Did you do the painting yourself? Bookmarked, don't keep us waiting for the next update - we appreciate even the smallest things!

The Indy was for sure a good found. It was radiated from the PRA (the italian public register of veichles), only for use on private roads. The owner said that he stopped it beacuse it had a "weary" engine. He bought another red 75, and keep this one for spare parts, ending without touching it. Thanks for the appreciation! Unfortunately I didn't do the painting by myself. At my actual house I don't have the place to do it, and in the next house It will be increasingly difficult even to change some seats or bumpers... So, the Santa hangman it's my coachbuilder I've lost the rear seat belt, so i ordered one from a friend of mine, and with that i should be able to drive it. One thing i don't know how to solve, it's the placement for the fog light. They are fixed on with plastic clips, wich joint into the bumper's hole. The problem is... I only have two pieces left. The other four broke during disassembly of the Indy. And mine wasn't born with foglights... maybe removing the actual "clip bolts" and putting on bolts with washer&nuts? Late i'll post some pictures. I'm also gonna make an electric movement to open the trunk, using a little motor from an Alfa 166, like this one:

Great cars. Nice what you’ve done to yours. The trunk modification will be great. That it could only be opened from the inside was a design mistake from Alfa Romeo.

Thanks! A truly mistake. Mine didn't work well too, and the emergency rope under the rear seat broken at the first try. Such a shame... so good and complex car, but awful material and slovenly assembly. But... back to the work! There's still so much to do. Talking about the fog light reassembly, here's the pics of the last two clips still somewhat alive. They go into these openings in the sides of the fog light holes: Yes. the horns in the background are working. The godfather theme, excellent for meetings. Today other bushings arrived home, completing the set. Poliuretane ones for the front and rear, plus classic rubberish for the sway bar. Next it's gonna be the installation of the "renewed" gearbox, with new discs and rebuilted caliper. Also a little work on the head & valves, just to add some spice to the engine performance... it would be fantastic to found some profiled cam shaft, or make own. I'm gonna need to do some calculations. Another thing i have to installing, much simpler it's a CB radio. A Midland Alan 48. The only doubt is... where? Not in the radio shack, i want to keep some music on. Nucleo Radiomobile Roma anni 80 in this video, regarding italian 80's police, at 1:22 you can see the Bull Ote (one of the first PC on car) and the CB at 1:25. Here, circled in orange, the CB.

I had a 1.8 UK D plate, 1986 - sundym glass and air con a really rare option in a UK car at the time. The twincam on twin 40's was really sweet, cannot remember now if they were Webers or Dellorto, Champagne metallic colour pretty well rust free just the light trim along the boot lip had issues and if I recall the early ones were different colour Orange? to the later cars Red? and therefore it was far more difficult to find - I think the transaxle was also smaller or had smaller brakes. Quite a few differences to the Metallic Black TS LE I had after it Fantastic car in Black with the Recaro interior cannot even recall what the number of it was now. Great cars.

This is great reading. Always had a soft spot for Alfa Romeo 75 and GTV's of that era. Havn't seen one for years in Denmark. Keep the pictures coming.

Thanks guys so much for the appreciation and supporting. I'm sorry if i'm lacking lately, but i had some issues with work and family. So, going back to the 75! She's pratically finished ... i'm kidding, this car isn't nevere gonna be finished. I think the "Alfa Nord" transaxles are one of a kind of project car: i love them, but they never have been close to "perfection" either in 80's, maybe for the material... i don't know. Also a friend of mine, who have an Alfetta GT 1.6, gived up to concentrate on his other Alfa, a 33 1.7 16v. So much money and effort... The fog lights clips are indeed a pain, i found other two that where missing, but i'll need to put a screw to support the fogs. Latest work made are: - replacement of the gearbox with a one from a donor car; turned the synchronizers, washed, new discs&pads, rebuilded calipers - new gpl system (yes, sadly she also goes on liquid propane gas) with injectors - new caps for the rear axle shaft - new exhaust camshaft "lock" (i don't know the english translation) - installed the Alfa 166 electric motor for open the trunk To do list: - hub bearing for the rear left wheel; - rubber manifolds; - left gearbox rubber bracket; - repair the power steering pump, or adapt one from a 164 TS; - put a lambda (for the GPL ecu); Also another tought is for the stock ecu. Talking with my friend (who is also a mechanic, and have the place to do what i sadly can't do at my home) the TS doesn't run clean. At approximately 3-4000 rpm, there is some lack of progression, as if the ecu can't follow the engine handling... and it seems it's a common problem for the 75 TS (many other had the same issue) without solution. It's indeed an italian problem... "why she does that? Don't know, I'll pass by". This friend of mine have a Giulietta (116), completely swapped with 75 TS engine and trasmission, powered by a DTA ecu and also with functional carburetors, petrol injection, methane injection and Alfa 147 coils instead of the double distributor. Indeed a fine project car, used daily, and it seems like that with the DTA the problem disappered. What do you think? I should make this "investment" and upgrade my daily Alfa to the 21st century, or still running with the 80s electronics? Also today i made some shopping Nothing special: 4 new speakers (Hertz), new radio antenna, an aux in to usb adapter, a CB antenna and two switches (for horns and trunk), wich i'll install this weekend. Oh, and i'll also change the rear left door lock, wich decided to give up in this days Stay tuned, i'll put some pictures tomorrow

Great cars. 1.8 with twin 40's it's maybe the most underrated engine combination for the 75, but i personally think it's the best combo. Surely they where Webers. Mark 1 75's orange (1985-1988), mark 2 red (1988-1993). Champagne metallic like her? Me with some friends. On the left, the E34 we used to go on a weekend trip to Munich the same day, on the right the 75 1.8 champagne metallic. The owner it's the one with the hat. How much i envy his wheels... <3 Black TS with Recaro? Seems like it's similar to the italian "A.S.N." Allestimenti Speciali Numerati (Special ): 3500 TS and 1000 1.8 Turbo only where made. The TS and Turbo have different brake calipers, but sadly the efficiency doesn't increase. It's a little defect of the Alfa Nord.

That's the colour - I seem to recall that my 1.8 was on steel wheels with trims - I think my TS LE car was around 27xx in the run but I could be way off - I can only remember the first 4 numbers of the UK plate K765---. The 1.8 I did have all of the original hand book and dealer wallet and information until recently but I don't think I have it anymore but that had a credit card affair with all the car details on in the front. The TS LE was a great car and looked the part as well with the Speedlines, wind deflectors, bodykit, tints Recaro, sunroof etc. and that fantastic TS engine.
Keep up the great work.

Yes, in UK the late special with Recaros was called the LE. Twinspark only, came with fake splitrim speedline 15” alloys. Think these were 1990/1991 cars.
