John, the patternmaker I use has a brilliant team. Incredibly talented and knowledgeable,I wouldn't have considered taking this project on ,without having him on board. Some of the finer details. Green arrows to show that this seemingly solid lump of tread,is actually hollow. Material saving and where the ice cleats would attach. And yes, your fingers will get stuck in there.don't ask me to elaborate on that ๐ More material saving evident here And the core box used to make the core to make this feature The main core boxes after a run of 260 parts. They stood up well. It was a wonderful project to be a part of. I am truly blessed with some of the people I get to work with on some of the projects I do. Anybody ever out in Cairns,The Australian Artillery and Armour museum is worth a trip out there on its own .This will be headed out there later this year.Robs collection is mind blowing ๐

I quality of this work is just amazing! Those tracks would be worth hanging on a wall, getting images of using a few links as shelving!

Been a crazy week with more driving than anything else,so little progress on the three wheels ๐ Actually, let me rephrase that. Been a crazy week with more sitting in a van than anything else. Can't use the word driving as that would imply movement. Sat on the M25 parking lot for more hours than I care to remember. Sat for over an hour watching two fire engines wash marmalade off the M25 after a truck carrying oranges overturned. Why they couldn't use a street sweeper truck and do it in ten minutes God alone knows.... Anyway, early starts and late home most evenings resulted in little to no garage time. Did stick my head in one morning to check if the epoxy had dried Which it had. It's really slow to go off. This is to minimise shrinkage and to give the air bubbles created from mixing,a chance to vacate the premises. Was a quick and nasty mold with no draught angle on any the faces,so knew it would demold without breaking it out, hence using balsawood for easy destruction It came out very well. No airbubbles right on the surface. Bit of a test piece to mess around with to see how durable it is All in all, good stuff. It does pull and shrink a bit,but think it definitely has potential for the rx2 part. And it's more than good enough to clamp the section I want to cut for the three wheeler. Did also get to change the fittings from the old tig torch to the new one Really lovely bit of kit, can't wait to fire it up. Again,I suppose you get what you pay for. There is a huge difference between a ยฃ20 Tig torch and a ยฃ200 one....

Are you going to use the resin for a small run press tool die set or some sort of former? If you are it would be good to see the results as I might have a use for the resin!

Well, I broke it. It's now well and truly bwoken....๐ That is the curse of the bootfair that's broken. Had to collect my Son from a party Sunday morning and decided it would be a good opportunity to go to a bootfair I don't go to very often,as it's abit out of the way. Because of this, there are a lot less Ugg boots and Addidas attired folk, and a lot less tat. This weekend was in aid of a local school,so it looks like Dad and granddad had been into their garages and sheds, possibly with the help of Mom....all for a good cause and that. Generally,I don't buy powertools at bootfairs,as I feel they are a definite outlet for half inched stuff. I made an exception yesterday though, having spoken to the oldboy for quite awhile,he showed me the invoice and credit card slip, along with his credit card. Seems he had bought some stuff end of last year, but his health was against him. Wanted the proceeds to go to his Granddaughters school . So... Brand new 300mm disc sander, never been used Did a bit of a package deal. He also threw in a no longer working 110v transformer, and a faulty Rage evolution chopsaw,of the metal cutting variety. An hour in the garage and both transformer and saw working again. Popped into scewfix a bit latter and got a new blade for it Cuts metal a treat ๐

Decided to Christen the disc sander. Started on the door apertures for the Ape. Fiddly to cut mainly because of the shape of the profile. Cast blocks from last weekend work a treat. Need to have a proper tidy up in the garage before I go any further, but initial results look very promising ๐ Need to make a couple of blocks to clamp the profile to,when I weld them up. Would like to try and get the new door apertures all cut and fettled to length this week. Will have to see how I go...

Why is it I never find things like that at those 'local' bootfairs. Watching with interest re the resin experiment, I've a sill to mirror and replicate somehow! Also friend had an invite up to the weald foundation last week - think he was impressed!

Don't know what happened to last week,or all the things I was going to do in it. Think it was a phantom week and actually 2018 only has 51 weeks to it. Seemed to have other things/ places to be every night last week,so garage time didn't materialise. Had a bit of running around to do on Friday ,which landed up with lunch with v8ian . Always a good one ๐ Short weekend then as I landed up working Saturday to get Fridays work out. Did manage a bit of a tidy up and reorganise in the garage. Got the ape turned around so I can access both door frames for measurements and to ensure I don't built a death machine with two front doors and no fire escape ๐ It's slow going, but getting there.Got to make the opposite hand of everything too. Think I have the technique sorted out now Checking the angles are cut the right way as I go along. Frames starting to take shape Doesn't help that the white one is all over the place as the floor has been chopped out ๐๐ But I am getting there

Maybe I should signwrite that on the door , after all the Ape was designed to get into many a tight space, and I will probably look like a bit of a tool sitting inside it....๐๐๐
Glad you like my use of Todger clamps... ๐

Doorframe replication is slow. Think I need to change tack slightly. Most of the first one cut and ground to length. The disc sander is an absolute Godsend. It's a bit of trial and error in getting these right as the doorframes are all over the place on the white one. They definitely need to be made a bit smaller, but I don't have a lot of material to play with,so cannot afford to waste any material . I think the way forward is to remake two sections out of the spare length of material I have, and leave the rest slightly over length. Will then tack the frame together and see where it needs fettling. Slow progress, but heading in the right direction ๐

This is probably old now, but watching Car S.O.S at the weekend the pick-up that was towing their trailer had a sign on the door saying "camel towing" well made me smirk.
