I NEED this right now!
There are so many companies importing modern j-tin to the UK now, do any of them do the retro stuff? How much is stuff like that going for over there and what sort of pricing once it gets over here?

Some magnifiscent cars there .
I guess one of the reasons we do not see the designs like that anymore, is Safety, and possibly peoples need for constant change.

I turned a Laurel coupe like that down years ago for a grand in mint condition. I was talked out of it by a couple of mates who didn't like "J curse word".

No one really imports them because the cost of purchase and import is more than their actual value when they land... Whilst they are obviously desired very few people are willing to pay the cost of the purchase + shipping + taxes etc. to end up with a car that is worth much less than they just spent... Most of these cars command a good price in Japan so it's not like they are cheap pickings to begin with. Take this for example : page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u15478993The reserve on that is about £4,300 .. Lets assume someone I know out there has had a look at it and confirmed its all good. Lets also assume they are willing to do some moving around of the car to get it to the port for me. Then lets assume it costs just £1,200 to get it to the UK and registered. I'm now staring at £5,500 for the car... The number of people that would buy that car for that much is very very very small.. in fact they would probably just import another one. So it has to be for personal reasons to import such a car. At the big saloon and coupe end of the J-tin market there isn't the money floating round for people to do that. On the Z car and sports car side there is. If anyone does import a nice 4dr Cedric hardtop, I'll happily give you a few grand when you get bored of it

see thats the thing...
certainly with yank cars you find people are ahppier to pay £7K to import their own than they are to pay £6K for a car thats already here...
And if a Laurel coupe is going to set you back £6K or £7K landed here and taxes paid, and maybe more, hell, I can get a Trans Am for that and the V8 kinda wins for me....

I suppose in part because people like to bring in something new to their chosen scene, rather than have what they might regard as someone else’s cast-off? I sometimes wonder if that’s why cars for sale on this forum (and others, or within clubs) don’t always sell very well.

One day I'll bring a Datsun 510 coupe in from Japan and it'll cost me around £6,000. And if I ever put it on Ebay it would probably sell for around £3,000. Same goes for the Laurel Coupe. Love em, but they're not economical to ship in.
