Looking for tips on where to look for supplies and/or fitters (in the TS17 area) for a very specific tint.
The car (1994 Rover 414) already has very lightly tinted glass from the factory. What I'm after is a light tint with a mirror finish that doesn't exceed the legal 75% light reduction permitted on the front glass. I don't want a heavier tint or mismatched front-to-rear. A black or dark silver mirror tint would be ideal since this is more about aesthetics than privacy or light reduction.
I've had a look online to no avail and I don't know who to approach for this sort of job in the real world in my area. Finding really heavy tints is quite easy, the lighter stuff is proving more difficult. A lot of listings online don't even tell you what the light reduction is on the product, nor the longevity, so I've not idea if they're even good value for money.
Any help appreciated.

If it has factory tinted glass you can't add anything to any glass forward of the B pillar

Surely that depends on how heavy the tint is? The tint on my front windows is incredibly light, especially so compared to the factory tint on newer cars.

I saved details of a seller at Washington when I was looking for local supplier, they seem to have a good range & know their stuff but I've not used them. See eb@y seller " tint_fit", plenty of colours and tints to pick from www.ebay.co.uk/sch/tint_fit/m.htmlsame as xbl - a reliable source (wikipedia, man in the pub etc ) told me that it wasn't possible to add to a factory tint without going past the legal limit* * I'm sure you can add a light tint to a light factory window but how do you measure if the result is legal

Thanks for the link.
I'd have expected a tint fitter to have a measuring device like the ones police use to determine if your tints are legal or not. That way they'd know for definite if the glass could be tinted and stay legal with the products they had. Perhaps I'm being naive.

Your car has green tinted glass, it will already be at the legal limit of around 75% as per construction and use,
Any tint even a clear film say safety film can take you over the legal limit ,
It's your choice and your licence,
Also worth bearing in mind that the police can be unimpressed with tinted windows
If involved in a accident your insurance are likely to cancel your cover leaving you liable for any costs relating to the incident,
And yes I've understand that you have seen loads of cars with front door glasses tinted, but as above says its your car, license and life 😊

A not-very-scientific option might be to look at pics of factory cars and see how dark the manufacturers go. Or find a seller advertising "just legal" tint (75%) and see how their demo photo compares to your glass? I suspect most sellers don't have a tint-measuring-machine but could be wrong. I'm sure you know the limit only aplies to glass forward of the B-pillar, you can tint the rear side windows & tailgate with blackboard paint if you want to

@rusty988: When I said "What I'm after is a light tint with a mirror finish that doesn't exceed the legal 75% light reduction permitted on the front glass." what part of that read to you as I wanted to break the law and commit insurance fraud?

Simply put you can't tint front door glasses on vehicles in the UK, If you or anyone else does then you will be breaking the law, Vehicle modified and unfit for the road, Mot testers are meant to fail all cars with front door glasses with after market tinted film, And insurance companies take a dim view of front tinted windows and will cancel yours or anyone else's insurance cover, In my last post I only wanted to inform you and anyone else who read it of the pitfalls of front tinted windows, This is the technical bit after all, I have tinted windows on cars, trains, trams and busses for over 20 year's, i have seen and heard it all, If you've taken offence that was not my intention, I have taken my time to read through my last post and can't find anything that was directly aimed at you, So to conclude your car is already at the legal limit, Any specific light mirrored film will take you or anyone else over the legal limit, thus leaving you or anyone else foul of the law, Mirrored and metalised film has the most reflective properties of any tint film, This is information and not any kind of accusation to you vulgalour, If you feel your civil liberties have been affected the please contact someone who gives a curse word and might pass you a tissue 😁

Just a clarification, there's nothing in the MOT about tinted glass.

rusty998: Since it was me making the original post, you can perhaps understand why I thought your reply was aimed at me in answer to my question. No offence taken, just a misunderstanding of how the information was presented as sometimes happens with typed conversations. Darkspeed: That's much more informative, thank you. In conclusion: Don't. Which is a shame but oh well, money saved I guess.
