congrats on the pass re: the 1990/1991 thing. could it be "model year" ? for example i think vauxhall 1991 model year ran from sept 1990 to august 1991, if that makes sense ? probably clutching at straws though I think your right, best explanation I can think of. the internet tells me the Calanque was available for two years 90 and 91. The 90s came in white and the 91's in silver, but I bet there was plenty of early/late ones.

probably just me.. but I would have to source a bumper insert for the front.. that would niggle me on such anotherwise "right" car. Agreed! in fact I've bought a full set from www.chevronics.co.uk/ as all mine are bent/broken. Pricy but couldn't resist. It feels wrong buying Citroen parts from the UK but bits seem hard to find even over here. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

Thanks! It is in pretty good nick for it's age and mileage, but photos do make it look a lot better than it really is. Glad you got your LHM leak fixed and the car to pass it's test. Thanks, yours is a great colour, and must be an early one with the extra windows in the rear pillars, Would love to see a thread about it.

Class BX. To be honest I was never a fan of French cars back in the 80s and 90s but since they've started coming onto the classic car scene (at least here in N Ireland) I've begun to really enjoy looking around them and reliving my teenage years of seeing them driving around as new cars. Plus a few years ago when on holiday in France we stumbled across a sign for a Citroen museum so we just had to stop and check it out. Was AWESOME!!! Now it's on the south coast so a fair jaunt away from you in Normandy but well worth a visit if you are ever in Provence. www.citromuseum.com/

A bit more BXing today. My friend Titou wanted to tow his boat into town for repairs. Seeing as I have a tow bar that I would rather wasn't there (I can use the daily Duster if I need to tow anything) I said he could come and take it. Its BX specific. Undid the four bolts and it pretty much fell off. Its a hefty old thing! Fitting it onto Titou's BX was a bit of a struggle, took a few hours of bending and hammering to make it want to fit but we got there in the end. Its a lot easier to work underneath with the suspension at 'service' height. Here it is at max. and as low as it will go Apparently you can drive a BX on only three wheels, hope I never have to test that. We drove round to Titous to pick up his boat and set off into town. Like all good Norman's he owns his own tractor Was a fun drive. They have some cool stuff at the boatyard, The mechanic owns this life boat thing that he's converting for his own use, I think it looks great, a bit James Bond.

Wow, that is a minter! and very similar to mine, only differences I can spot are the rear lights are tinted black where mine are blue, and it has side repeaters. Maybe that's a UK specific thing, the ones over here don't seem to have them. Very hard to find a dent free BX, the steel must only be microns thick

If they're anything like an Ax you can probably read a newspaper through it, I leant on my Ax's rear quarter with very little pressure, and put a huuuuge dent in it that was either popped in or popped out. Was cheesed off about that...

Can anyone help me identify these wheels? They are for sale locally but the seller doesn't give much information, apart from that they supposedly came from a Peugeot 205, they look vaguely familiar but not sure if they are from a 205, or any Peugeot.. But they are directional, which I've always liked. If they are to go on the BX they need to be 14" and Peugeot/Citroen PCD. 4x108 and around 18 to 25mm offset. Anyone recognize them? thanks

PCD/ET wise they will be fine, it's just the size. I ran Citroen C5 16" alloys wheels on my TZD with no issues regarding fitment. I've not seen rotational alloys like that on a peugeot before but I get a feeling they may be 13" for the 106.

I think you might be right about the size, shame as 13" is a bit small, they are pretty interesting. I've been googling Peugeot wheels and haven't spied any directional OEM wheels, or anything similar from the aftermarket.
Your BX looks great in red, and no dents!

I removed the baby walker spoiler as it kept weeping polish on hot days and painted the toblerone black. The rear bumper was a mess though when I got it, I ended up repainting it but it was never quite right, and it took me a while to find the missing front bumper splitter. Fitted a musketeer bonnet which was a very lucky find in the right colour, let alone at all. I sold it when I moved close enough to my work making my commute 6 minutes and bought a big engined petrol auto so I wasn't ruining the TZD constantly cold-driving it. I still love the styling, drive and ethos of the BX. I would love another but my E28 BMW and XJ jeep are serving me perfect at the moment so.no excuse to replace either

S'funny but I had a colleague in the late 80's who had a silver one with a weird perspex panel on the C pillar .New at the time I thought it looked awful and plumped for a series of Cavalier company cars rather than go the Citroen route . Never paid any attention to the model since then until I read this thread . Now , I just love the razor edged look to it now and in comparison to the Xantia that I eventually was seduced by ( like an ex wife ,it was a 'kin nightmare ... ) it looks magnificent . I love the simplicity of it and would strive to keep it factory stock . I wish you much ,much enjoyment with it .

We've been doing a bit more work on the BX. This week we have replaced the Timing belt, water pump, and the seals and bearings to go with it, also a coolant flush. The belt was last changed in 2001 at 40 something thousand km. now on 73033 km. out with the old. we also changed the 'flector' a part that goes between the steering column and rack. This was a must fix for the control technique, which we thought was strange as it looked fine on the car and even when removed. but a bit of lateral force and it showed a big crack across the rubber. how the CT guy spotted this I have no idea. But good on him! new one looked like this: (I had ordered the wrong one of the two available so had to re order.) Two man job to get it off. We also got the non working window squirter's going with the help of some compressed air, and fitted the new bumper rubbing strips front and rear. looks a lot tidier!

The 5 Turbo was a funny one, we were driving around in the countryside and it was in a little shed, on its own, open to the road.
We stopped at a tractor repair place down the way assuming it belonged to them. It didn't, but had heard it had been sold for 6000 euros.
I bet if I went back it would still be there tho. Phase one btw.

A little update, I've replaced the original fixed/bodged headlights that we glued together with some new units. Don't tell the father in law, he wouldn't approve of the expense. But I do like to be able to see where i'm going at night. I've updated the stereo from the original billy big button to an age appropriate Alpine unit, also some JBL component speakers in the doors. The rattling produced by anything bar the shipping forecast played at low volume is pretty bad. may have to look into some sound deadening for inside the doors The standard stereo really makes you realize how much technology has moved on since 1991. the new one is pretty dated also. I was hoping that the new Alpine would have green lighting to match the dashboard, but never mind.

Just enjoyed reading this. Nice to see I'm not the only one afflicted with the BX bug! Looks really tidy, that. In the UK we had the St Tropez model, but it was effectively the same thing. My own first car was a beige (sorry....Ivory) 14RE on a 1989. Same TU engine as yours, but had leccy front windows and central locking. Pretty much everything else was the same, though the trim was less adventurous. Now I've got a 16v and the mk1 16TRS I did a thread on the other day. You could say I'm bitten! FYI, on the door shut where that '91' is circled, there's another 4-digit number below it. That's the RP/orga number. Google search 'Citroen ORGA build date calculator' and you'll find a site where you punch that number in, and it'll convert it to the day your car was actually made, so you can find out exactly when its birthday is Bookmarked for future updates
