That's the main reason I changed to alloy racing calipers with thin-walled pistons (although half the (unsprung) weight was good too). I assume that since I have Metro Turbo callipers, a set of alloy callipers for a Metro turbo would be an easy swap, rather than tracking down a different model of calliper that could be adapted to fit?

Would have expected them to be a straight swap but who knows where BL / Rover are concerned :-)

Not as bad as it could be, really, and the yellow wheels look great. Nice to see this one pop back up in my bookmarks after it disappeared for a bit.

And just like that it was entirely taken apart. It’s taken just over a year to get to the end of part 1 but that’s it. Every single part is now off the body. It’s just a (really quite rusty) shell. Hopefully the restorer people will pick it up next week. I suspect hey may be otherwise engaged with fancier cars. The weirdest thing was that despite its 37 years of age and barn living not a single bolt screw or nut was rusted up. Every single one came apart. One or two needed a squirt of WD but hats all. Freaky weird. Anyway here’s some celebratory pictures. Once the shells gone I can make a bench and start taking the actual parts apart.

Yup. Way better handling than the 205.

Delayed update time... After a LOT of scraping and grinding, got the shell all tucked up into a panel van for a visit to the cleaners. A couple of weeks later and it's back!! and apparently a lot more of it is back than I expected. Rather than being mostly hole the shell turned out to look a lot better than it really should. Stripping company (who have done a bang up job applied etch primmer straight away as part of the process. So, back into the van and off to the body shop for some welding and a respray! With extra time on my hands I managed to use the cars dimensions to knock up some vector files for the stickers and decals for after the paint. The final effect should be somewhat like...

That's a bit of a result. Looks like all the rust repairs are going to be very small and localised, surprising just how good the rear floor and inner arches are.

I have tremendous memories of being thrown around the roads at night in one these (rally-road prepped) back in 89/90. It was night time (he had a pod of lights too which helped) and he absolutely drove it like the proverbial. I was v impressed with how it went (scared out of my wits!) Like the mock up and it's going to a cracker I'm sure.

I saw this on the RJH faceache page, looks like a proper job.
Who is doing the body/paintwork if you don’t mind me asking? Is it reef?
Looking forward to the finished project.

Chris No A1 Retro Sprays in Swindon are getting it on Tuesday. They specialise in older cars, Ford stuff mostly and seem to strike a good balance between proper resto joints (was quoted £15K by one place to finish the shell to final paint). The work Ive seen of theirs looks pretty good. I'm not after concours show stuff just a good solid job.

A former keeper who had it for 15 years from almost new got in touch. He had kept it mostly in an underground garage while he had it, and while I had it it spent two years in a barn and then eight in a workshop in Ireland before I got it back, so it's spent more time under cover than not in its life which I think has helped a lot.
