How quickly can you go from stripped shell to painted shell? If the answer is "not very", then don't have it stripped or dipped.
Better to deal with the rusty bits you can see and make it as solid as you can if you're on an open-ended timeframe and the get it stripped/dipped once you've done as much work as you think you can find. That way when it comes back you shouldn't have much, if anything, to put right before heading to paint.
From the photos it doesn't look that bad and only appears to need localised repairs, the worst of the rot looks to be in the removable panels rather than the shell. When you remove the loom, label everything as you remove it so it's easier to reinstall later. Any fixings you're removing, bag and tag if you can't put them back in the holes they came out of, this will also save you a lot of grief later. Like any job, prep now saves time later and should make the whole process more fun.

But this will be at an extra cost. peronally id get it ont he body spit and have it media blasted if your workshop is as dry as it looks in the pictures.

Workshop is really nice and dry so maybe that's an option. Can get someone round to jig it up and blast it off. The space is huge, like an aircraft hanger so there's very little moisture around.

Hey wow this is a blast from the past!!! Those reg plates and the roll bar look familiar!!!! So they do. Not sure the plates would past muster on the road any more. Cirencester plod used to turn a blind eye but I imagine things are tougher now. And Swindon isn't Cirencester either. Roll cage still going strong! Your efforts were well worth it and appreciated still.

Measure the disc (dia, thickness & overall height) and have a trawl through a disc catalogue - there's bound to be something you can adapt. I had EBC D690 on my Samba (1990 Nissan Sunny GTI) machined down & redrilled for 3 stud.

Had a wee look at the brakes today. 9 years in a barn certainly allows the rust to set in. There may even be a small plant growing in one of the disk vents! Will strip it all down and clean it up. The callipers should either clean up or be easy to replace as they are standard MG Metro Turbo four pot callipers so a trip to any auto factor can probably unearth a set plus any seal kits etc. The disks themselves are more of a mystery, they may be Peugoot 505GTi ones modified to fit, but this likely means a lot of work as standard 505GTi disks are much bigger so some machining must have been done, Apart from the rust the dsik suface is on perfect condition so maybe a go with the wire brush will be enough. The disks need an aluminium spacer to to allow the 6J alloys to fit over the callipers. Will probably have to machine a new set somehow. The EBC green stuff pads are also pretty much as new. The rear drums look particularly weedy. Rear disk conversions are possible but finding a set is an issue plus they cost an arm and a leg. Never noticed the drums causing an issue but rear disks just look so much better. Onwards.

Are those calipers only running on two pots? I wondered that - the Metro Turbo 4 pots I ran on my Samba had 2 hoses going to each caliper ... Later version of the caliper maybe that addressed the poor design ?

Here's a photo of the rear disc conversion I did on my Samba - used std solid front discs and rear calipers off a Renault 5GT Turbo / Peugeot 205 GTI / 206 GTI. Consisted of a custom hub that took std wheel bearings and a simple flat bracket to mount the caliper. Might still have the hubs kicking around somewhere ...

If you could dig out a pair of hubs I would be very very interested. edit: I assume you fabricated up a bracket to mount the Renner calipers onto the hub?

Yeah, I get that, but if they are Metro AP 4 pots they need two feeds to run all four pots. The ones I'm looking at there seem to have the lower feed blocked off so unless they are modified internally only the upper two pots will be pressurised. It isn't a difficult fix if you are happy making up lines, you can convert a single input into dual with a piggy-back line, like they use for Metro 4 pot conversions on single line Minis.

Couple of pics of the hubs and caliper bracket : Looking at the hubs, I remembered why I still had them - the guy who machined them made the recess for the inner bearing race fractionally oversize so it's not as much of an interference fit as it should be. (I used a liberal amount of bearing fit loctite to remedy the situation.) When I wide-tracked the car, I got some wider ones made rather than use spacers. If you want them as is, you can have them for a couple of beers plus postage. Alternatively, I can take them into work and see if they could build up the oversize area and remachine it. Ref the caliper bracket - as you can see, it's very simple and bolts on in exactly the same way as the drum backplate. The one in the pic I made for my Visa from 6mm aluminium only to find it was too thick and fouled the hub (hence the lack of holes to mount the caliper). The ones on the car are 3mm steel but the same design.

I see what you mean. I guess it’s as you say only a single line into them. Will get to fixing that as I refurb them. Thanks for the pointer.

Although with only one pair of pistons working I would have expected some pretty horrendous taper wear on the pads. What's the pad wear like ?

The 104/Samba community seems to keep track of where everything is but it’s always great to see what other people have built.

This was my Samba - I sold it a couple of years ago - and it seems to have vanished off the face of the earth - even a vehicle enquiry on the DVLA website says "No vehicle details can be found" - which seems a bit odd as even things I scrapped years ago still come up as there having been a car with that reg number.
