Hi there
Been looking through some of the great car on here a while so thought i'd join up to show my latest project.
Ive had lots of vehicles and most recently morgans and G wagons. However with saving for a house Ii needed to cash some of that money in temporarily so the expensive vehicles have had to go.
This left me with a set budget for my next choice.
The criteria was had to have 4 seats, although I mainly only need 2. It had to be under 3 litre as my G500 tried to financially ruin me on long trips, 2 doors and a convertable would be nice.
The other must was a nice interior and something I think will go up in value. (I'm planning to keep this a few years before selling and putting the money back towards another morgan)
This gave me a choice of 2 vehicles, the more practical head choice being a mk1 TT quattro coupe and the heart choice being a R129 sl.
As with most of you the heart always wins, so a SL it was. I wanted a pre 93 car without the dodgy wiring issues and the older version of the 300 with the m103 engine rather than 24v model (I had a g wagen with a 103 and got on well with its simplicity)
Basically I went to see a few dogs before this one.
Think back to 1993 for me now, New car sales were at an all time high. Vauxhall had just launched the corsa and some no doubt flashy banker type decided he wanted a new car .... What would he choose? well it wouldnt be the new corsa thats for sure!
What he decided on was the most 90's spec but smallest engined sl of the range and all the better for it. I'm pleased he picked it so thank you Mr flashy banker type, you even went for the right colour!
Back to now, A lot has changed but the car survived, it went through a lot of caring owners who have maintained it well, however one had questionable taste. Still with 70k and zero rust with everything working it looks a good base.
First things i'll be doing once I get it back are removing the stick on chrome on the lights and getting those wheels off for some temporary of age style ones I already have. In the end it will be back on its original 16's once I have a set and they are refurbed.
It will also be having the clear indicators removed off the front to go back to orange and a new boot is on the way to get rid of the worst thing... That horrendous spoiler.
Its also in for a waxoyl and service to keep it looking nice, only other thing will be sorting a new window in the hood as its split from being left down.
I'll be sure to put pics up as it progress' and no doubt things break.
Tom
