I have a spare few days at the end of August. I have my friend bringing my 964 over here and I figured it was time to see more of Scandinavia. We're kinda pressed for time so the likely plan is here (here is half an hour north of Amsterdam) to Kiel in a day, overnight ferry to Gothenburg then head down the west coast of Sweden, obviously taking the Øresund bridge across to Denmark, head up to Dansk's museum and then back down to Legoland for a day, and home the next. It's about 2,000km of driving all in, but much of it will be in Northern Germany which is largely empty and derestricted...
So, is there anything else I need to consider? I was going to stop in at a couple of Porsche centres to increase my collection of Porsche centre plate frames, but other than that? Any advice greatly appreciated!

Haven't done it personally and I appreciate it's almost definitely too far west for your plans, but I've always been told the Koenigsegg factory is an absolute must if ever near it. I'm not entirely sure how formal/organised you need to be, but a group of mates stopped by there on their way back from Gatebil last year so I can't imagine it's the sort of thing you need to enquire about months in advance for.
Going off some of the DRIVE clips I've seen on youtube, I'm sure it'll be utterly mind blowing getting a tour of that place.

If I remember, nomad is heading Denmark way to take in some motorsport stuff. Have a look through his recent posts.

cheers georgeb My plans are still changing but now look like : Arrived in Wales today for about 10 days working holiday. Return home on 31st to hand the key back (the rented place I moved into last month has just been sold !) Fly to Denmark / Copenhagen for 2 weeks holiday starting Aug 2nd just in time for the Copenhagen street racing (see link below) Return to UK 2 days before I need to drive South for RRG and a weeks touring holiday. Then MOT the car ASAP, find a house ( possibly Alston / Lakes for September, then Tyneside for October). No plans past that yet I'll be based just outside Copenhagen when I'm in Denmark, happy to meet up at the racing if you decide to make the trip retrorides.proboards.com/thread/194191/foreign-motorsport-event-next-year 8-)

Going to miss the CHGP, but I'm going to the Zandvoort one a month later, so that takes some of the sting out of it! I hadn't even thought about Koenigsegg. They're on our route and we'd probably have driven straight past if you hadn't mentioned it. We won't now! Thanks!

...obviously taking the Øresund bridge across to Denmark... Did you know that it's possible to take a ferry via Rodbyhaven instead? It cuts out a good chunk of road miles, and to be honest that bridge is a pretty uneventful moment...

It was still running when I last drove there, according to Danish mates, but that was 2003/4 and I was doing Esjberg - Copenhagen, so probably not much use. The bridge is actually quite exciting in thick fog!

What about Bastnas car graveyard - not too far north of Gothenburg?

Germany: The Autobahn in the north is boring as f*ck, just so you know. In Hamburg I can highly recommend visiting Gasparatos Automobile if you fancy automobile exotica like Mille Miglia Aston Martin Lagondas, Rally Saabs and VWs, US musclecars and even the odd Porsche if you're lucky. Denmark: Close to Aarhus (Jutland) at Kalø Slotsruin is a great classic car and bike meeting every Tuesday night (if the weather is good enough). Expect 100-200 cars and an equal amount of motorbikes on a good night and over 500 of each on a very good night. It's free and you don't have to register, just go there and don't forget to bring your barbecue gear! You can be there right in time when you're driving from NL and it should be easy enough to find accommodation for the first night as well. Sweden: The Volvo Museum in Gothenburg is definitely worth a visit and in Trollhättan is the Saab Museum, which is not half as good.

Bastnas looks amazing! It would add seven hours of driving in a day, though, and would mean we would probably miss Koenigsegg. Another time... Want to do The Bridge, because, well, I'd be doing The Bridge in a classic 911. Yeah, it might not be particularly exciting, but I'd be driving over The Bridge in a classic 911! I know about the Autobahn in the north being boring. Which is why it'll be hammer down to get it over with as quickly as possible! Not going to be there on a Tuesday which is gutting because that event looks ace. I'll just have to go back. Will pop in to the place in Hamburg if we have time on the way to the ferry.
Thanks everybody!
