Given that both vans are being touted at double their real value and given the extent that you would have to go in order to gain a IVA pass once converted then the answer to your question is 'No one in their right mind'

You could do a rebody keeping the ID of the donor Durango - or similar, which I think would give you enough points to avoid IVA.
Then you would have to find one of these in a decent price, something that seems nigh on impossible these days were everything that might be converted to a street food van is perceived to be worth approximately ten times its weight in gold.
To keep things on track, its great that there are now more bidders and the price is slowly rising already. Hopefully the last minute bidding war will bring it up to a point worthy of the time and dedication put into it.
Great work as usual!

Well thanks everyone! I have news- we've driven it around local roads and it is CRAZY! Tomorrow about 12 hours from right now, we are driving it and filming, to a car show. I'm going to take the footage that I have of the build, (that picks up where we left off in the last video) and finishes the build segments, the test drive and the review along with the public reaction at the car show. This should make for a cool video.
This van- it's like a giant soup can on top of a mushy Durango! The seating position is SO HIGH that it feels like you're going to tip over! My buddy at Bodgewerks showed me a video of a London bus and in 1957, they did "tip over" testing. If the London bus doesn't tip- this won't either!
It's got proper current 1960 registration and paper work, plates, insurance, the lot.
I love that ebay auction with the Metro over there- is not worth 8K GBP but hey- maybe over there, it is. More than half that amount is shipping to get one across!
I'm seriously not a fan of these things, but I knew, it spoke to me. It yelled at me. I knew we HAD to build it. When I pull into the drive and see it sitting there, I think "Yeah, I guess it's pretty cool".
The video should prove interesting because I've been going to this particular car show for 5 years and I have never- seen anything like this. Let's see what the masses think! (although with over 8k views, 8 different bidders and almost 500 watchers- this Metro that I've built- I bet it really hits the mark. at the current price, we're already in the positive column if I'm honest. Anything after that- is JUICE. (or Gravy, a bonus, whatever) lol
More late Sunday to see how this all turns out!

19.400 American Dallars!
Hope you feel you got a decent return for the work you put in, but the big question is... what will the next Durango based project be?

That number! Heck yes! But- they only have 2 feedback and only recently registered on Fleabay. It will likely be relisted and sold again. But hey- you never know!
Anyway- if you have the bandwidth, check out the final video in the build series for the Metro. Please share and subscribe if you can! Thanks and Just Wait til you see what's next!

Good work on this and such a quick turnaround. That video's good as well - did you make that too? And did anyone ever mention that you look a bit like a younger Gary Busey?

Top work Grenade !!
I'm pleased you managed to keep the true spirit of van driving there too, I was worried you'd fit the rear doors so well that the obligatory squeak would be eliminated.
Phil.

That drive to the show looked like an adventure.
You keep mentioning that the thing is scary to drive. I do realize this was never going to be a corner carver, but I wonder what your thoughts are in getting it to the point where you would be happy to drive down the intestate?

Thanks guys! As far as the unsettling way you feel while driving it- that could be corrected easily enough. I'd recommend to the new owner to put new sway bar (ARB) links and bushes all around. Then, I'd turn the torsion keys to tighten the front a bit. Very easy on these things. Additionally, I'd go with a stiffer coil spring in the rear. That would solve this thing. Oh- also, new shocks. They appear to be original 2004 with a ton of miles on them... A day's work and a few hundred bucks, that thing would drive much much better. Nobody has contacted me from ebay about the van. Probably not a real buyer, I'll know by the end of the day. I've already sent out emails to all the interested others, letting them know that it's likely to be relisted for sale. My buddy Dieter? Yep- German. His parents are old now but they're super cool and have that charming German accent. Dieter doesn't have the accent but he talks funny anyway lol known him 20+ years. Good family. As with all the videos on the Grenade Motorsports You Tube channel, I make every one along with my basic website www.GrenadeMotorsports.com . My son helps with cameras and still photos, but I do all the editing, voice overs, production and arrangement. A 10 minute video takes hours to edit along with the "HEY did you film this part" of the building process. We've kind of worked it into the builds at this point. Camera work and talking in front of the camera is now as normal as working on the vehicles. Nobody asks me about the cameras anymore, they all know where it'll end up. I personally love it, it's fun pretending to be on the tele haha I have learned that doing voice overs works far better in the morning because if I'd had some beers and record them at night- I sound like a total dickhead hahaha

Welcome to the world of click baiting. Even the most popular you tube channels do it. It actually picked up thousands of viewers that might not have ever seen the channel. It added over 80 subscribers since posting it 2 days ago.
Only a few comments of "Where's the girl". Mostly good feedback based on the actual content. That's the first time I'd used that, and did it as an experiment. It totally worked. I maintain the content is worthy of viewing and will try to keep that trashy imagery to a minimum.
But- viewers = $.
