Want it to last + Toy + Budget... I'm afraid this is one of those things where the three don't go together....

Cvh turbo parts can't be cheap now. Seems a little pointless. I thought the whole idea was to use the 2l zetec bottom end for a capacity upgrade to the CVh engine not the other way round.

Except it's not cheap to correctly convert a CVH to a ZVH. Calibra Turbo pistons are not as cheap as they once were, making Omega pistons look a little more viable. But then you may as well do the rods... At least you can give the engine more boost I guess. But that's not all. Breather problems are often ignored by many specialists IME and the magazines who touted the conversion back in the day. If you do any form of track driving with the breathers not dealt with correctly you will be one of the most hated people on track. You can guess how I know ; yup, I'm a perpetrator here. The Zetec conversion as you probably know is more effective and cheaper. But there is something about the xVH burble:

Zetec turbo on a budget
St170 bottom end ( forged rods and Pistons ). You need a black top head and a focus Rs head gasket. This give a comp ratio of 8.6-1
You also need to put the st170 valve springs into the black top head if you don't want valve float.
This set up is reliable to 300ish bhp and will max out a stage 3 t3
You can make a zvh using same bottom end and a efi cvh head. Just requires a little bit of creativity with regards to water pump and a few other bits.

IMHO most ZVHs need either the breather baffle adding to the front of the block ; But your Turbo may now allow this to happen. The other choice is to baffle the breather which people drill into the block. Without this being done the breathers will never work right. You'll either have a car trying to leak from most seals or one that simply chucks oil out on hard right corners on track. Cheers guys Any input on a v6 engine swap st220 st200. Or other engine swaps... Doable. But keep the cooling system in check. Ignore it at your peril. IME the issue is not the water pump ;I never had one fail and I covered 500k (that is not a typo) between 2 MkIII V6s. The issue is people using the wrong coolant to save a few quid as well as ignoring cooling system faults which on a car where the fan cuts in at 100 degrees C will soon show up any flaw.
