New dash boards such as the BMW F30... Looks like a pop out screen in the centre of the dashboard but it's a fixed unit. Goes nowhere. So why not just blend it into the dash? Haha yes! I had a discussion with the salesman about that when my mate was buying an M135i. Nearly forty grand for a car and the screens just plonked there like an afterthought? Really?

For a start, everything about the Toyota Fortuner drives me mad, but as I'm condemned to driving it on the school run whilst the RR gets its act together, there's one that really grips me. Toyota seems to think that we all want to listen to the radio, all the time. So, I start up, it comes on, I press the power button to turn it off, pull up outside school switch the engine off. Little Darling appears, jumps in, I start up and halfway through, "How's your day, Honey?" get treated to a blast of sodding rap music. If I've manually turned the bloody thing off, why did some little Japanese engineer think that I didn't really mean it and that he should make it so it comes on every time the vehicle is started? If it was mine, there'd be a gaping hole in the dash and probably a matching one in the passenger window where it got launched!

The radio in the other halfs 04 is ridiculously quiet (Think, normal conversation can still be had at 30+). You want to listen to music, you whack it up to 40 or so (I think the max is 60 or something). Turn the car off, get back in and it reverts the volume to 15. Road noise is louder than the radio at the is point. Incredibly irritating and cannot be rectified without bunging an aftermarket unit in.

none colour matched distance sensors - especially after market kits, they just look awful.

Certain motorbike engines that you have to strip all the top end off to be able to access the lower half such as starter clutches. It'd be far easier to bolt from the underside after removing the oil pan All designers ought to be made to work on their own creations. Then we'd see how user friendly items would be made

External lights that need a major recontruction to change, scrub that, any bulb you can't change at the roadside without needing the hands of a small child and special tools to access. Brother had a Jag XF, and the bumper had to come off for the headlights.......
When I rule the world, the MD of a car manufacturer will have to do this at the launch of a new vehicle. In front of the press......

Whilst we're on stickers, what about additional badges?
The other day I was overtaken by an S-Type almost identical to my own. Same year, same colour, same wheels. Once it overtook me, other differences became clear. The 3.0 and SE badges were gone. They were replaced by:
1. A leaping Jaguar badge over the numberplate like on a current model; 2. An S badge, also from a current model; 3. A horrible cheap and nasty ebay V6 badge; 4. A chrome numberplate surround; and finally 5. A Renault Sport badge.
Why?

Speaking of badging, those that up-badge their base model cars. There are only 2 kinds of people in this world: 1) Those that notice the badge, and would know its not a real one 2) Those that wouldn't know its not a real one, but wont notice the badge anyway. Who are these people impressing with their M Badged 318s and AMG C200s?

No idea but I think we've all had a misguided moment of thinking maybe just one of these badges would look cool:β "If I just add this 'S-Line' Badge...." ..but we all luckily have the strength of character to push back. I actually think this is a full-on sub-culture of car owning that really needs a name. Y'know - people who love their cars and want to be different and start with good intentions but have no idea when to stop or any idea that sticking on shiny stuff from Halfords isn't really achieving what they think it is. Sort of like they were going for a VIP look but got a two-for-one offer on plastic chrome down at Poundland. Items on a prime-example: β’ Chrome stip applied to the verticals of window frames, door shuts / curled round wheel arches and the like ruining the silhouette of the car β’ Mudflaps with reflectors on them β’ Mudflaps with chrome 'truck naked lady reclining' motifs on them β’ Fake vents on front wings and bonnet β’ Boomerang roof aerials β’ Gilded golden tissue box on back shelf β’ Rear bootlid with so many chrome suffixes and numbers from other models / different marques it's more like a fridge covered in poetry magnets β’ Those Rhinos' humping tyre covers you used to get on Suzuki Jeeps/Vitaras β’ Those Lexus and Honda owners who get their manufacturer badges gold-plated Obvs. the prime exponents of this 'look' is the common-or-garden PT Loser Cruiser owner, and all the Suzuki Vitara people, but I've seen a lot of those off-brand SUVs (Hyundai Santa-Fe, SsangYong FakeJeep and the like. Is there a secret magazine where people are getting these [fugly] ideas? Any names spring to mind? I offer 'MingingBlinging' or plain old 'MingBling'"]

In the old days chrome trim would be applied to arches and panel edges to disguise rust. These days cars tend not to rust the same way, bit those with the necessary gene still drive a market on chrome stick on tat.
Keep fit sunroofs annoy me. How many fights have started because another motorist thought they were being called a walanker? Hell, even my bloody Proton had an electric sunroof ,so why couldn't Cavs, Mondieus, or 4 pot E30 Bimmers have them?

People who put Porsche wheels and badges on vw's and then think it's a Porsche. Or an even worse one, there use to be a vw Passat (estate π) full of Bentley badges, tragic π. Or a Chrysler 300C with Bentley badges trying to make out its a Conti GT. I was at a customers house a while back and on his drive was a diesel 300C with a Bentley badge displayed very proudly on the grill, I asked him 'why's your Chrsyler got a Bentley badge on it?' He couldn't give me a straight answer, I think he was a bit peeved that I had noticed his 'Bentley' was in fact a cheap American car.

French cars converted to RHD for the UK market - so many annoying niggles, from having the handbrake still mounted on the far side of the centre console, half the glove compartment missing because the fusebox is still there, or the shorter wiper blade left on what is now the drivers side. French car fans would call it character. We had several Berlingos at work that had one touch electric windows only on the passenger side.

Changed the stuck open thermostat on my car today, and even though I knew it was fine, no leaks or airlocks, I still panicked it was overheating when it got out the blue whilst moving I hate that feeling lol.

wooden 90s steering wheels with matching wooden centres. usually found in some old duffers merc. the ones with the uglyiest headlights in the world talking of ugly headlights. and ugly in general, what is going on with those cyclops hondas in fact, this shape of car in general with no discernible difference between bonnet and windscreen that makes them look like an 80s espace. and the windscreen pillars are so far forward you cant see round corners. and what is going on with those stupid little windows in front of the front door windows. and on the corsa what is that wing mirror doing half way down the door in fact nearly every modern hatchback looks like this oh and also auto wipers, auto climate control, auto radio volume adjust, auto dipping mirror and auto headlights all do my head in

aerodynamics, lower CO2 levels, crash legislation, pedestrian safety, etc.
all the rules and regs mean there is very little scope for designers to let loose these days
