Then I'll hand them the clipboard and ask them to make notes on everything thats wrong as they go round the show. I bet one person per show will actually seize the opportunity to boost their ego with an official clipboard. I have to do this. You do indeed!

But the thought now occurs to me... I might return to some classic car shows this summer, but take a clipboard with me with some forms to fill out and an official looking masthead on the forms "Clasic Correctness Organisation". When the rivet counters bother me I might thank them for their dedication and diligence, explain I'm part of a grass roots movement to drain the swamp in classic car land. I'd say my car is there as an example of what's wrong, to use as a recruitment tool because we need people to go around making detailed 'fault' notes and taking down reg numbers of all the cars that are not correct. Then I'll hand them the clipboard and ask them to make notes on everything thats wrong as they go round the show. I bet one person per show will actually seize the opportunity to boost their ego with an official clipboard. I have to do this. You must. You could go to a classic show to get the movement going, and arrange them to go to the weekend long festival-type classic car show at Goodwood sometime in May next year. They might need 2 or 3 clipboards.

Always the less informed who have the most to say at these country classic car shows. So they don't like modified retro but by being dedicated in that direction the cars are still on the road. My old Volvo 740 after being rescued from a life as a pizza delivery car as an hot rod theme upgrade / people stare / some like it / others are either rude or i just laugh at their narrow minded ness

Not quite the same thing but we use this at shows when I take my Delorean. I’ve had lots of cars but everyone at a show seems to know all there is to know about this particular car. At the danger of being called some of the names mentioned in this thread, the DeLorean wasn't made in "Ireland". Dunmurry is in a small, but unique, internationally recognised country which is a legal entity in its own right, and part of the United Kingdom, sometimes also referred to within the sovereign states as "Great Britain and Northern Ireland". If you're going to get irked off by someone coming up and stating "facts" about your car... it's best to be well versed in the truth first.

However, I believe the bingo sheet was originally made by an American hence the incorrect spelling of aluminium (I’ll say no more than that) 😉

I had a guy in the gate at a car boot today ask me about my Astra, I'm always honest it's not real, after which he turned to my 6 year old and said "you're dad is sad, go on tell him hes sad". Fair dues it's a 1.4 with a body kit that says it should be faster than it is, but that really riled me. Daughter shot back with "I love my white car" so I didnt have to lamp him As a lot of people have said it's not rare they made thousands, and had I not taken an interest in mine it would have been down the yard years ago. If you want to "lamp" him next time, I'll hold your coat, that's just rude and borderline abusive to a 6 year old.

Dubious looking old duffer tells me this morning the air scoop on my Volvo 740 as ruined the car. I ask him politely what he knows about cars and he says nothing. I assume the good news was he actually noticed the retro car and commented because he went on to tell me how is modern car was so good. Now out of politeness i never commented because telling someone they drive a pile of horse poop would not better his original comment. Made me smile and we went our separate ways. Its funny how people these days seem to need to have the brand new car on the drive so the neighbours think there doing well while secretly there’re up the their eyeballs in debt, then find the need to tell someone there car is ruined, or whatever.

Weird phenomenon... I just got a 'thread update' notification and came to this thread to see a pic of pauly22 's hoodscoop and side exit exhausts, with descriptions. I then liked one post, but when I liked the other one I got a window telling me the post doesn't exist. Clicked that box shut and then both posts disappeared. Am I seeing into the future or something? I'm not aware of any way to delete posts entirely once they're posted, so it looks like the thread may have just dropped two recent posts. Maybe the server glitched out and had to revert back to a previous archived version?

Right found the HKS twin pipe photo that probably set the old duffer going into one Argh got the functional drag scoop one back which is fitted just ahead of a 2.3 turbo unit going in and wanting more cold air / currently bolted to bonnet but will be blended in soon Hopefully these photos stay on this time

It is an Heywood copy off ebay i presume / might even be an original not sure but when the 2.3 turbo Volvo lump goes in the functional scoop will allow more cold air / and when you have a retro which is in essence a pocket money car compared to prices of classics around today you can mix n match to your taste without any resale value to consider. Of course being different comes with a price / old duffers tut tutting but that means at least its getting noticed.

I get disparaging comments about my hoodscoop.
It's a fibreglass car with a big old iron V6 crammed in. There's just about enough room for a 1" pancake filter. I now have a 6" foam filter peeping up into the scoop.

Never realised fitting an hood scoop would attract so much attention. I ve lost count how many times ive explained being functional its job for being there. One know all said it was fake even though you can see inside the pipe passing through to engine bay / a couple of nice young ladies asked about it on behalf of their kids / one bonus so far and had a bloke filming it as i followed down a dual carriageway and probably lots of folk saying you ruined that but i never heard them above the loud ish exhaust

Anyone can just buy a car....car enthusiasts buy them, make em the Way they want em and use them.I really like the scoop, side exit exhausts always rock. I'd have a side exit if my car wasn't so low. Was looking for a long low pro street one for my Granada but gave in looking.that'd wind the old standard Granada crew up to heart attack level

Sons just bought a 1964 Land Rover, it will defiantly upset the rivet counters. Its got a 3L 5 pot Diesel Mercedes engine in it, it goes a tad better than a Land Rover diesel and does 30MPG
|
|
It will come in handy even if you never use it
