small introduction , my other half has always supported my love and passion of cars and asked me to build something for her to take to shows/ blast around the country side in.She has a love for old mustangs but being way out of our price range we settled on the idea for a capri, especially since ive had a few and i have good contacts for parts etc. So i called a friend and asked if he had any leads for a "cheap" capri , i know the days of a cheap road legal capri's are long gone even scabby rolling sheels are long gone.
so i call my friend and he thinks he knows of a non runner bit scabby but cheap... cool ill wait for a call. a few weeks go by and my buddy calls me and has confirmed its a non runner it is scabby but has a 2.8i recaro interior and other nice bits so i tell him ill take it and head to Bristol to pay the guy a small sum for it and organise recovery home. i pull up to the house and see the capri sat on the drive very tatty and scruffy looking. so i pay the man after a brief look around and question why it is a non runner , he tells me it was smoking heavily and overheating so he did the headgasket and wouldnt run afterwards. i fitted a battery turned it over and got a slight pop out of the carb.. happy days , ignition timing is out. i twist the dizzy and it fires straight up i decided to attempt to drive it home after sorting out insurance whilst i thought the owner was going to lynch me because the non runner was now a runner.
pull into tesco just to have a quick lookaround after driving it a few miles.
got home with drama's whatsoever.
Mrs is happy , I'm happy, everyone is happy. so we decide how she wants it to look after a mini restoration which is difficult when you both have different ideas but i have to not forget... it's not my car !
strip down time , rotten in places but as bad as some ive seen.
i agreed to weld in new steel and paint it as long as Carla does all the sanding, a job that i despise doing.
with the colour picked for the car Carla also decided to retrim the recaro's.
with the plan of bringing it to RRG we are working hard on it this week to try and get the welding and bodywork finished so i can move onto servicing and freshening up the pinto. stay tuned.
