Lack of pics apology as I'm on my mobile.
My wife owns s bomb the drab nova in side wall thread. It's a stock 1.2 at the moment and I'm good with that but just need a little more go. Now there are 2 options, I've read up a 1.3 cam inlet and carb give good gains but I can't locate any, how many must have got smelted down? I've found a 1.4 inlet but unsure it will fit. Option 2 is a mk2 astra 1.4 been sat for 10 years I can buy but then got to sell an engine less astra. Both options stay carb to save fuel tank changes etc as not got much to spend.
Please all opinions or offers of parts to buy welcome.

I put a 1.6SV AstraII cam in a 1.2 nova years ago, had to grind a slot in the back end for the dizzy drive, but it went like a train! On carb and no other mods whatsoever. It wasn't deliberate, it was the only cam I had lying around at the time, the original was fubared and I was skint!

Cheers guys. Carledo is that just a cam dropped in and nothing more? Tring to discover what inlet manifolds etc fit Exactly that! I had this rattly old 1200 Nova (an 85 hatch in red IIRC) and no money, so I raided my garden shed and found the cam. It looked good so I put it in! the performance boost was a serendipitous bonus! But i'm absolutely certain the cam was from a 16SV motor, the so called "short block" 1600, as opposed to the "long block" 16S or SH as used in Cavs etc. Later, I used a 1300S engine from a MkI Astra complete with its Varajet carb and F10 5 speed to very good effect in another Nova. That car would effortlessly outrun SR Novas and give a GTE a good run for it's money! The only downside at the time, was that the 1300S inlet runners were very long and the carb was up against the bulkhead. I had to run without an air filter and adjust the mixture on the carb with a home made right angled screwdriver made from an old allen key! The downside now, would be finding such a unit to use! Steve As an add on, I wouldn't give a 1400 house room! the poor relation of the small 8v family, both in build and power and the ONLY one where the valves hit the pistons if a belt breaks!

Cheers for the guidance guys, looks like I'll be on the hunt for 1.3 bits to get a bit more power, would love to know if 1.4 inlet manifolds etc fit. I might try to get a back bhp figure before so we can all see where I go.
