Hi folks as the title says really, it starts, idles but wont rev, just dies. If I only give it a tiny amount of throttle it will pick up revs but anything other than a tiny amount it just dies. I'v checked for air leaks where the air filter mounts to the carb and at the inlet manifold and found nothing. I stripped the carb and can find nothing wrong either. Any ideas anyone? I'm tempted to just buy a new carb but thought id ask here first. Cheers steve.

It sounds like the main jet is blocked or if it's a diaphragm type carb it's punctured. One other thought how does the choke set up work on it?

I'd guess fuel or (very unlikley) ignition. Blocked main jet? Pull the fuel line off the carb and check fuel flows freely (maybe a restriction / blocked fuel filter / stuck petrol tap?) Have you tried a new sparkplug? I guess this has an automatic gearbox? If it's manual (with clutch and gearlever etc), get it warm - turn it off - bump start it I was selling a 100cc bike that had been parked up for a couple of years, it would tick over fine but wouldn't rev. A chap turned up and bump-started it then it ran great, he said the sudden "suck" through the carb sometimes cleared whatever was blocked. Let us know how you get on

Old fuel? Sounds like my strimmer trying to run on unleaded that has been sat in the fuel can over winter.

Not sure if yours is a 2-stroke or a 4-stroke, but a bike mechanic at the garage I use for my MOTs told me that a lot of these small Chinese 4-stroke bikes are shipped with no exhaust valve clearance, which causes issues with running. He had one on the bench that would start and idle, but would die after 30-45s. Reset valve clearances sorted it immediately.
Might be worth a check?

Thanks guys. Me and my girlfriend bought one each last summer.Well I went to buy one for her and was offered another as a spares bike. The spares bike was 95% complete so I decided to get what was missing ( battery, plug and lead, drive belt, few other things ) buy the time I got it running it owed me £140 inc the bike its self.Best thing was though it was a 2014 bike so didn't need an mot till later this year. I'v never owned a bike before, the closet thing iv come to it is hiring one on holiday, but iv had so much fun on this thing, I love it lol! Anyway its twist and go so no gears, auto choke and 4 stroke. It had been sat over winter but last weekend I tried to get it going but it wouldn't start. Charged battery striped and cleaned carb and away it went. I took it for a 10-15 mile ride and it was going better than it ever had.just as i was heading back home it started to do what iv described, but it got me home. It sat for a week and next time i went to start it it wouldn't. so i striped the carb again didnt find anything wrong but it started once refitted, but like i say it wont rev. I striped the carb again yesterday and looked for air leaks etc but its just the same. A new carb is only £20 so i'm just going to order one now so its in the post, but in the meantime I'l check valve clearance. If it turns out i don't need the carb i'm sure the other bike will, cos it won't start now! Cheers steve

Here is a pic of them when we got them last year... His is the black one Direct bikes sport 50cc 2014 £699 brand new lol! Hers is the white Vulcan retro 2003 50cc probably less than £699 brand new. The plan now is to sell mine and buy gwinnis off her. Typically the minute I put mine up for sale it started going wrong lol! Pics of mine now... If you hadn't already guessed the build quality of these things and the cheapness of materials used is, well, £699 brand new type quality But it doesn't stop them being great fun and after faffing around with the two of them i'm now thinking I NEED a proper scooter cheers steve.
