Does anybody know the exact colour i should re-spray these Escort mk3 wheels in? Also whats the best way to treat/spray them without going down the power coat root?    |

I'd suggest you don't do what I did (results looked smart but soon went shabby), maybe lacquer afterwards or use something else (acrylic??) remove tyres, valves, weights then sandblast  Aerosol "wheel silver" from my local shop (not a specific colour code).  Finished    |

I have the same wheels as your Hunter on the Escort. they've gone a bit rusty and the tyres are balding so, i though i'd do these up.
Maybe i'll look into sandblasting them then. I'm just about to get it sent in for some welding so maybe they can do it.

Hi, With steel wheels all I've done is just chuck them on the bonfire and all the paint and oily dirt on the back just turns to dust. Then brush it off, then emery any rust,prime and paint, as said lacquer helps seal it off.

I've wondered how to best replicate the original finish in steelies like these. Its almost an electro plate type finish. Anyone know how they did it at the factory?

Hi, They do it by electro statically charging the item so that it attracts the paint particles and to an extent round corners into the nooks and crannies. They do it to body shells too which is why you see what are effectively mist coats up under the dash or parcel shelves.

Normal powder coating won't last outside it will chip if a stone hits it,I had my camper wheels powdercoated with a powder that is for outdoor use the company use it to paint tractor wheels.
