Hia chaps, I've got a 1994 mk3 Astra 1.4 Merit, which apart from the C20XE and electric windows is a complete Gsi replica. In the past I've had issues insuring it with those mods declared (but always have done, since it looks nothing like a Merit now and I've already been pulled once so an officer could have a nosey), now i have a C16XE engine to go in over the summer, as the original 1.4 is tired. A few questions, does a 94 Astra class as a classic to insurers nowadays, and with things like engine conversions who are the best people to give a ring for a quote? Last time it was on the road i was with Halifax, but they don't cover engine conversions. After a previous experience with Flux i wouldn't give them the time of day, so who else is out there that will take into account it may be a crappy old Astra, but it's had a lot of work put in and won't be doing many miles? Sorry for the essay, just trying to cover all bases so when the engine is in i can just make a quick call and go play Also, please don't say "why not go redtop" (because they're mega money for old smokers these days) or Saab turbo (because i simply don't have the expertise to do a conversion on my own). I love the little valvers and they are more than capable

Brentacre have a very good reputation, although I believe they put a minimum value on the cars they insure...well worth giving them a ring as they've always been courteous and helpful when I've rung them.

ive only used lancaster and heritage for classic policies, my astras (which are older than yours, at 26 and 28) don't qualify for classic car policy due to arbitrary age threshold, but have this other weird thing called "cherished" policy for not quite old enough bangers

Try Greenlight insurance. I've recently swapped from Adrian flux to them and so far they've been awesome.
I have my cooper s Insured with them and any modifications I add that do not increase the power are free to add to the policy. Obviously your conversion won't qualify for that but they're certainly worth a call.

Cheers guys, I've already heard good things about Brentacre and Lancaster, so will add those and Greenlight to my list. Also been recommended sky, but sure they have a minimum value and whilst i don't know what mine is worth it certainly isn't a lot. More sentimental since it was supposed to be a stop gap... 9 years ago Have a pic to make up for essayness

I've got the Jag and the Pug with Footman James. Pug is modified (engine, suspension, etc) and they're very reasonable. I've used Hagerty as well in the past and they've always been helpful.

But anyway, not gonna turn the thread into negatives

Lancaster have said they are happy if I do light mods and a 25% bigger engine swap. For : legal insurance with all mods declared. Against : The negative comments I've seen from folk who have tried to claim make me very nervous, price rises every year (even after moving from a high-crime to zero-crime postcode)

I use Greenlight on my GSi. I was with Footman James but they wouldn't insure it when I wound the coilovers down.

I wouldn't have told them that ^^ "I've fitted coilovers" is enough info for them.
