Does anyone else do this? When i'm away on holiday or whatever i tend to buy local magazines. For the most part i can't understand a word that is written inside, but much like the Playboy magazines that i used to get hold of when i was a yoof, i don't buy them for the articles, i just like to look at the pictures! Mrs Pp doesn't understand why i buy them in the first place, and she really doesn't get why i hang on to them when i am happy to let the ones that are written in Enlish go once i have finished reading them. So does anyone else buy magazines they can't read? And if you do, lets see what you've bought!

There's a French Magazine called Youngtimers, which I like to read. All about Retro Cars in general. I do speak French to a reasonable standard, although not fluent, but it's worth a look just for the pictures anyway.

Yup, got magazines from USA, Japan, Denmark, Spain, Sweden, Italy and France which I've picked up on holiday, also magazines from Germany because they are stocked on the various Balearic islands we visit. Friends who know I tend to buy car magazines when I'm overseas also now pick me up ones occasionally, my favourite is a classic truck magazine my friend picked up from Germany I'll take some photos later.

Same here - I've been lucky to find that some of my favourites (particularly Diesel Power and Petersen's 4Wheel & Off-Road) are available at some of the large Middle Eastern airport hubs as well as in the USA!
Having lived in the States for a year, not only can I enjoy the pictures but the language is not too much of an issue either
As it happens, I have an old copy of Chrom & Flammen too - I've offered it around petrolheads of my acquaintance & not had any takers but can't bring myself to recycle it
Yours if you'd like it PP

Got Drift Tengoku, Option, Custom Scooter, Custom Burning and Custom Scooter 125 all from Japan. I can read a little bit of Japanese so not a total waste, and if I feel like ordering parts, I can jump on websites and buy them.

I often buy that when I'm in Holland, Dutch version of the same mag, very interesting mag.

Chrom & Flammen (Chrome & Flames) used to be sold in an English language version. It was mostly available in larger, independent newsagents, which also sold some of the US mags; Street Rodder, American Rodder (a good, sadly defunct title) car Craft etc. You could tell from the writing style it had been literally translated rater than written by a native English speaker.

Here we go First up the Japanese collection, I have a bunch more than this, but they are in their own box in the loft so I just took these. Now some from the US of A, again there are more floating around my house, but I don't know where they are. Rodders Journal is awesome. Some from Germany now, Opel and Ford Scene are why I had a blog/site called Retro Scene Mag (Retro Scene gaming site is why it has mag on the end). Motoraver is excellent. To France! They have a really cool motor racing scene in France, and some great mags to go with it. A little further South and we find Spain on the left and Italy on the right (or top and bottom if the photo doesn't rotate). Then to Scandi countries, Vmax from Denmark, Street and Strip from Sweden, Klassiker from Sweden too (I think). Again there are more Swedish magazines in the house somewhere, Bilsport and Bilsport Retro Car are for sure around somewhere. If anyone wants to see inside any of them I'm happy to do a video or take some pictures.

Street Rodder, American Rodder (a good, sadly defunct title) car Craft etc. You could tell from the writing style it had been literally translated rater than written by a native English speaker. Ahh yes, American Rodder, that was a brillaint magazine, i have every single issue of that magazine in my loft if mrs Pistonpopper hasn't thrown them away! I had a massive clear out of magazine about two years ago, i separated them into two piles, a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE pile to go, and a smaller pile to keep. I couldn't sell them, and in the end i put an ad on Rods n Sods that they were free to anyone who wanted to collect them. I was at work when they were collected, and mrs Pp gave away both piles! I was gutted, there was about 100 magazines in the 'to keep' pile, most were nothing special, but had a few articles i liked in them, there was a dozen or so foreign magazines, and one (are you sitting down?) quite tatty, very well read, and still very worth having HotRod magazine, January 1948 Issue 1 Volume 1! DOH!!!! I asked the guy if he'd come across it while he was going through them all, but he said he never saw it! Hmm... Nevermind! Anyhoo, heres a few more of mine... The Rodders Journal i like a lot, and have been buying them since the beginning, and have the full set. Hop Up is great, i like the writing style. Dice has got me into trouble with the Pistonpoppets teachers when they've taken them into (primary) school (think back street heroes, custom car etc in the seventies!) Fuel i really like, and wish i could get hold of it easier, but every once in a while it pops up in WHSmiths, and i grab it.
