Here is my latest running project a 97 Jaguar XK8 4.0l V8.
I bought the car with 1 years mot but looking very sorry for itself including a loud clacking noise at tick over that the previous owner was told was terminal engine failure by his garage. Anyway I like a challenge so bought the car and drove it home! The car comes with full service history and a retro 90's motorola phone kit minus the phone.....alas.
Further investigation revealed a faulty VVT solenoid, £80 later for a second hand solenoid from ersebay, some fresh synthetic 5W30 oil and filter and it runs lovely. I've replaced the cracked tail lights and rear reflectors and gave the paint a thorough wash and polish. I've also oiled up the door handle mechanism and realigned the door strikers as the doors were stiff to open and close.
Jobs to do are fit new gaskets to the door handles as these have perished. Repair the blowing exhaust downpipe (Thinking about making a custom stainless exhaust) Remove the headlining board and recover as the fabric has been removed. This involves the removal of the seats and centre console. Replace the front brake discs/pads and and bleed the brakes. A small patch on the rear sill. New reg plates Touch up stone chips on the front nose cone. Replace n/s foglight. Repair climate control LED display. And a repair to the lower rear quarter that has some corrosion.
Overall though I'm happy with the way the car looks and drives, it's faster than I was expecting.
Below is the original advert picture, some progress pics to follow.

Nice ride.
I live in the US, SFBay area, surprised how much these are these days. Quite affordable. Once the FJ is rolling, I might look into getting one.
Good luck.

Thanks...I have an FJ also but a 4.2td. Don't think the diesel was offered in the US though. Here's a couple of more photos. Today fixed the electric antenna that was just needing freeing off with a bit lube.

They are smashing motors, this one cost less than a long weekend away with the family, huge smiles per £££'s I'm going to attack the headlining refurb next week. Pics to follow

Thanks...I have an FJ also but a 4.2td. Don't think the diesel was offered in the US though. No, they weren't sadly. I have loose plans of fitting a Benz diesel down the line, and maybe a 5 speed transmission. Currently the FJ is turning into a "why you shoudn't buy sight unseen off the internet" tale of woe

Lovely!!! IMHO you have the best colour combo there and sounds like you might have managed a bit of a bargain!
I searched for one for about a year here in the US. You can buy them cheap but they really are buyer beware. There are some monster money pits here. It isn't helped that the ratio of drop heads to coupes in the US is something stupid like 5:1, so the coupes are much harder to find in decent condition.
I lusted after one in the exact same colour for a couple of years in a shared car park. Back then it was a brand new car and belonged to an investment banker (whose company eventually went bust...).
I ended up finding that a decent one over here was just about the same $$$ as a decent first year XK (aka the Ford years) so bought one of those instead.
You really have a future classic there and think if you hold onto it and look after it, it's going to be worth some real money in the future. Unlike my 2007 XK!

I'd love one of these but sadly, they hold stupid money here. And I do mean stupid.
I can buy a 1995 XJ6 for 23,000 quid, so imagine XK8 prices.

Thanks, they are great value just now, prices are sure to rise. I've had a few Jags but this is my first XK8. I plan to fit a new headlining to it soon. I'll post some before and after pics. The newer XK's look fantastic, pics??

Not the best angle but... still not as pretty in the front as the XK8!

£23k for a 90's XJ6...!! I guess it's mostly tax? Problem I have is that it's a tax that was levied 22 years ago! Mentality seems to be that it doesn't matter what condition it's in, a lot of tax was levied when new, so it must still be worth a lot. I thought the RR was bad, but Jags? Crazy.
