One is specifically for diesel.
Look in your handbook for what actual rating the oil needs to be ,ACEA standard .
Go on ebay , you can get unipart oil cheap delivered free, euro car parts is a rip off , even when they do have ' sales ' .

I used to use Unipart oil, the 20W50 version and used it for years. But IME it doesn't keep the viscosity and seems to be recycled rubbish ; alot of my classics went to have very low oil pressure (in one case barely 5 PSI once it had broken down!) after a month or two of use on a hot idle. Going to a better oil like VR1 kept a higher hot idle pressure in between oil changes.
That said a good 20W50 can be hard to find.
Halfords and a trade card will get you somewhere (their own oils aren't too bad) or ECP with one of their weekend deals.
As a rule the diesel oils tend to have more additives in them attempting to keep the engine cleaner ; if you changed the oil on a diesel before you'll know how quickly it goes black ; within the first turn of the key! It was said that using a diesel oil was a 'gentle' way to clean out a petrol engine with a few oil changes skipped.

The manual says use an oil to spec: ACEA B2:96, API CE or better. The silver bottle (which is cheaper and I already have a couple of litres of spare) seems to exceed these specification.
I will only be using it for a year/3000 miles at most, so I guess it will be ok.

As I said in my post the Valvoline VR1 sorted out the issues I had with cheaper oil. What was stranger was that it stayed clean in between services.
That and another experience made me keep away from certain outlets of oil.

I use triple QX 10-40 semi in my 300 and it's done 243000 miles, the sump is spotless, it doesn't consume it, ect. Older stuff like this is less fussy, but you get what you pay for. I change mine every 6 months and a filter every second change. Takes just shy of 7 litres BTW.
